Anyone try the DDM Works Race Intake system?

I know it's pricey, but it looks like a kick butt setup! Has anyone on here bought it/used it/experienced it in a friends car? I'm considering ordering one for my soon to arrive 08 MCS if I hear good things about it...

Better yet: Outmotoring crew, you guys have any numbers from this intake? Is it a good option for the street?

I have have a friend who is very happy with it. I noticed a very definite difference in his car after installing it in power at all speeds and rpms. It reduces a bit of the dead spot above 4500 rpm that the mini had before, and he's very happy with it overall!

It is a true cold air system correct? Uses cowl in the hood to bring air in? That was the main thing that I liked about it from the looks of it. So that means you have to open the hole in the hood scoop completely if it isn't already i'm assuming. Would you buy it again even for that price? Build quality is nice and fit and finish is at the factory level or higher? Did you get it with the foam filter or the KandN? Sorry for all the questions, but at almost twice the price of most other regular aftermarket intakes I want to be sure it's worth it!

no worries about the questions! Yes it does utilize the hood scoop which means you have to open it, although I hear some people don't like the "unfinished" look of the open scoop.

Apparently fit and finish is very nice, just a small step below factory quality. The RAS fits snug against the hood and seems to create an excellent seal to keep the air pressure high.

I would advise getting the K&N filter because I've always sworn by them and it seems more durable than the foam filter.

I would say it is definitely worth the money, it just seems like a better system than anything else out there unless you spend twice the price, which you can easily do with some of the very high-end systems out there. Hope this helps your decision!

Unfortunately I don't know. I'm sure you can email the DDM Works people and they would be happy to let you know!

I have this in my car. I am very satisfied with the system. DDM does an excellent job protecting the product in shipping.

See my initial review here,

https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...&highlight=DDM

I live in a very wet climate and no problems with rain getting into the filter, even at very high (legal) speeds.

The only caveat I have is an issue with the vacuum line supplied with the kit. I routed it over the turbo inlet tube as directed in the instructions. The line became flattened between the intake tunnel and turbo tube, and I lost partial vacuum boost for the brakes. I rerouted the line under the turbo inlet tube and have had no problems since. I contacted DDM about this, they said current instructions will direct this routing for the vacuum tube.

I plan on getting this intake this spring, so I'm glad to still hear good things about it.

Some posters have mentioned that the turbo would convert any water that made it that far into steam. Based on the discussion it seems unlikely that liquid water would make it that far. However, the idea of counting on the turbo blades to make steam from water sounds scary. I can only think that water hitting turbo blades would make for a sharp, possibly damaging drop in the temp of the turbo blades. Is this concern valid? I have minimal experience with turbo cars, but I have had some experience with bad things happening when metal is suddenly cooled.
thanks,
Joe S.

Like I said before, I have used this system at speed in rain. No problems at all. This is Autobahn use. As fast as I can go, in rain without hydroplaining.

I have even checked under the hood after driving in heavy rain, no water.

Also, any water that would get into the filter box will fall to the bottom of the box and drain out. If any water gets on the filter, and drawn into the inlet tube would be atomized.

Its not like spraying a hose on an open turbo.
