Dye,

I'm a dentist and I access to many great drills and such. I removed the entire trim piece from the hood. Then the four screws holding the black piece to the trim and started drilling away. Unlike my dental patients, there were no complaints. A simple dremmel would work well too and a lot of patience.

A little side note, I removed the trim piece at my home and had to drive over to my office. I had the windows lowered and the sun roof open and I could hear sounds that I never heard before. There was one in particular at the end of a gear and I would take my foot off of the gas and engage the clutch, there was a sound like someone would make after a refreshing drink "Ahhhhhhh". ........ Blow off hiss?

Also, I could definitely feel a little more pickup. Might be wishful, I dunno?

Mini Jay,

What material did you finally go with? I know you were really opposed to the punched out mesh, but yours looks like the type you'd use when building a stucco wall.

Is it painted orange, or is the camera "red eye?"

It is gutter mesh purchased at a local hardware store. It is similar to a stucco lathe, now that you mention it. I looked forever for a larger hole pattern but didn't find anything to my wishes. These have an irregular shape which I wanted and provide fairly good flow. I primed it and painted it red to match my stripes and mirrors.

Here is the thread on it: https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...&postcount=391

I think your mesh looks really cool. I was going to bend some screens as I got the one from the mentioned website, but I just don't have the energy to make it look good like you did. But you really did hit on something. IMHO! Good job and I love the painted scoop.

PS: Jay, how did you bend that metal down without really wrinkling it? Is it that easy to bend?

Thanks! It is a fairly thin gauge alluminum mesh that bent properly for me.
