Alta CAI and Water ¿problems?

Hi, I'm a little nervous about the noose unblocked because i think the rain could go into the air filter ant it would destroy the engine.

Do you have any problems about rain and CAI?

Same here. ALTA CAI + removed scoop grille = no problems whatsoever. Sweet sound, looks great under the hood and a nice healthy gain in power.

ALTA actually commented on this subject. If anything it's like having a 'poor mans' water injection. Shouldn't reap any problems at all.

"Removed Scoop Grille" You removed the whole grill, or just cut out the sections in it that were still there?

I removed the whole thing. Don't have a dremel and I worry about how it will look if I take a drill to it. My plan is to get the blocked sections dremeled out soon, then put it back in. Hard to explain, but it's not the best look with the it completely removed. The scoop appears to be made for the grille and looks rather 'unfinished' without it. This kinda show what I'm talking about. Crappy cell phone pic taken to show a friend my custom Euro-plate.

I work in a shop and I'm in elkton, md. Dont know where you are in PA. I'm gonna remove mine and mill out the pieces that are still there and re-install. I'll let ya know how it looks. You are right, looks alittle unfinished.

I'm in Lancaster, so not too far away at all - about 50 miles. Looking forward to seeing your results.

on-topic - I've had no problems with my scoop completely removed and the Alta CAI installed. It rains plenty in Hawaii.

I have the Alta CAI and scoop grille removed. If you look closely at the shape of the lip in the scoop after removal, it's shaped in such a way that severely limits how much water could get into the engine bay at any reasonable speed, let alone over the engine, through the foam filter, through the long horizontal inlet hose pipe, etc. In short, this should not be a concern. I may dremel out the blocked grille vents and reinstall it since I agree with everyone else about the inside lip of the scoop being unfinished looking since it was never meant to be exposed. For those that wondered why they even continued installing the grilles at the factory when they addressed the hood scoop heat problem, appearance had to have been the reason.

So, no worries on the rain issue. Just don't drive into a pool.

I have driven my car in extremely rainy weather with an open scoop, I have had ABSOLUTELY NO ISSUES!!!!
My only concern was with the scoop open at Autobahn speeds, Could this suck the hood off. It hasnt so far.

LMAO, I have a picture exactly like that!!! Good thing living farm county is that there's lot of open, deserted roads for ahem 'testing' my MCS out. Nothing illegal of course.

Grill ready for CAI

Before and after pictures of the Hood scoop modification. I removed it and milled out the places that were closed up. Took about 3 hrs of time. The piece to be milled is not square or rectangle and is hard to hold in the vise. A lot of hand holding. Took alot of patience.

Very nice! Kinda disheartening that it turned out to be rather time-consuming though... So no chance you'd want the opportunity to do it again on mine, right???

on mine, I just painted the "lip area" behind the scoop satin black. You dont notice it at all. It actually looks factory finished that way.

Don't worry about hydrolock. Seriously.

You're not going to harm your engine by letting a few stray rain drops land on your filter. Generally, the only trouble arises when you take the car through deep standing water and the intake sucks in generous amounts of water.

I noticed that in the pic last night when I took it. I dont like the way it looks. I waas actually thinking of cutting it out. Maybe some paint would do the trick. Although, cutting it out would definitely allow more air in their.

^^+1, it really is that lip which kills the entire look. I also thought cutting it out would increase airflow a good bit. If you do decide to take that on be sure to post how it turns out!
