JCW Air Filter Installed easier than i thought...

Hi all!!
This is my first post although I have been an avid reaser for years and years. Only now have i dived into modifying my '05 MCS

I ordered my JCW Air Filter from OutMotoring who is in Ohio and I'm in Australia. It took only a week to receive the Filter and I put it in the day I got it.

Love the new filter definetly notice lower end pickup off the line from the stock filter.

I just so happy with it as when I want to drive normally I can but when I want to have some fun it sounds great as soon as it hits the 4500 rpm mark sounds AWESOME!!!

Cheers

I will post something soon...
The instructions you get are crap I must say but all in all took me about 90 minutes and I took my time as it was the first time I was attacking and pulling apart MY car lol

The vacuum hose is a tad difficult to get too but other than that everything else was pretty straight forward... Literally as one is removed the other goes in...

Like I said I have a few pics nothing special or to detailed but I will post once I am home from work

Cheers,

Thank Luys !!

When you mean cancel the flip you mean keep the flap open ALL the time?

One thing I will ask the smaller opening at the bottom of the filter below where the Flap is located where the small rubber goes to you keep the plastic disc inserted to stop flow or do you remove the plastic disc?

It is the only thing I cannot figure out at this point in time

Cheers,

Hello gdimis, and welcome!
I have a JCW CAI still in the box (nothing to install it on yet). After reading the included instructions I was considering professional installation due to the wiring and electrical.
Was any of the electrical hookup difficult?

Hi Joshmman and thanks for the welcoming!!
It's like big happy family on NAM I'm loving it lol

I am fairly confident with wiring as I have studied Electrical Engineering a fair bit.

The Red wire with the metallic clip simply slips into pin 8 (which is empty and you will notice small numbered markings on the plastic)

The Yellow wire is a little more tricky but still very straight forward it connects to the White/Red wire, I couldn't find a Red/White one after a good few minutes inspecting every cable so I connected it to Red/White one and everything seems to be working fine.

Car is still running smoothly and definitely more lower RPM pull.

Can someone correct if I am wrong about the Red/White wire scenario, I have been so excited about this that I could be dilutional about the flap opening...

Anyone know if there is a way to confirm this? The car changes sound at around 4000-45000 RPM but nothing drastic, should it be drastic??

Cheers

BIG CORRECTION!!!

DO not connect to the RED/WHITE Wire (Pin 121 i believe)

This is wrong and will do nothing but make your exhaust bubble lol....

You must connect it to the WHITE/RED WIre it is not numbered which makes it hard but is distinguishable...

SORRY BOUT ANY MIX UP :(

Cheers

Just to make sure...

the red/white is a power wire which is thicker and is part of the power portion of the connector( noticabley larger contacts). The white/red is thinner wire and is a signale lead.

I wrote Cooper Works in the UK a few years ago and they stated it is left in place for sound reasons only. I have since removed my flap and the disk. Love the sound

Yeah you are correct. The White/Red is a thinner wire where as the Red/White is noticably thicker.

Definintely works once you manage to get your hand down to the Vacuum Hose and have that connected too

I mean that you can cancel the flip or you can open it. That now it is a true CAI.

Hi gang, if you remove the butterfly assembly, is there any reason to hook up any electrical?

No as a matter of fact if you take the butterfly out, you would unplug the electrical as it has no purpose anymore.

Do a search on "flapectomy ".

I'm about to install a JCW intake with an ITG filter, and Iv'e already pulled all of the flap parts off. Including the vac and electrical stuff.

Thanks! That sounds awesome. I've narrowed it down to a JCW with a "flapectomy" or a Dinan.
