Another RMW Tune

On a whim and with a lot of forethought I was able to catch Jan around 10 p.m. last night and arrange a tune session. Having changed my mind today at 5:30 a.m. (couldn't sleep) I shot him an email and by 7:49 a.m. had an appointment for today. To cut to the chase:

The car is an 06 Factory JCW. Mostly suspension mods. The only engine mod was MTH. I don't have a scanner, so I will just post the numbers:

Baseline:
HP = 198.1
TQ = 169.0

End result:
HP = 218.1
TQ = 183

Delta at 6k RPM:

HP = 27.8
TQ = 24.3

Thats right. Extra 24 lb/ft of torque at 6k! And that result is consistent on the whole torque curve.

All that combined with the throttle response tweak resulted in a different car. The power is so more "on demand" now.

Can't wait to see what the difference is at the track. See some of you at SOW next month.

Wow, that sounds like useful power and torque.

How much of a difference will your fuel bill be? Just kidding.....congrats!

So, a Factory JCW. Does that include the JCW airbox?
That's a healthy output for a stock JCW, right up there with Larryclemens.

Hp: addicting stuff.

Yep, stock air box. There might have been a problem with the plugs. Jan can explain it better. Will have them replaced in a few days.

I forgot to ask if Jan recommends tuning with brand new spark plugs and or HT leads.

Doesn't Goaljnky's MINI also have a stock head or do JCW cars have a different head?

Jan did tell me to check the plugs, but I had no time and decided to take a chance since the car has only 22k on it. Between his schedule and mine I wanted to get this done before the next track event and this was the only time we could link up.

JCW's have different heads. But by all consensus they don't do much.

I got a PM saying that my Delta numbers are off, so I thought I would clarify. Yes the peak delta is 14 lb/ft. But the delta from 3-6,000 rpm is 20+. Once I get the graph scanned it will make more sense.

Jan was there last year and he's going to be there this year. He's has some big plans that may keep him busy the whole time he's there.

Yes, it was. And it did work. Just not as well as Jan.
