Drivetrain HELP in picking new injectors for my cooper s
HELP in picking new injectors for my cooper s
i have been having a major ping for a while now in my 2004 cooper s . just got back from a local shop that pluged my car in and found it was fine for the most part up untill around 5000 rpm .... than the nock sensor would kick in and retard the timing 30 degrees untill the car ran very lean .
i am not sure what injector size would be best for my car.
mods are cold air intake , obx header , alta exhaust , 15% pully , giac tune.
the car will remain with these mods for another year , than i will be going for the bigger valve head and cam .
any idea on what injectors to buy ? do i need a bigger fuel pump as well ?
i plan on just injectors for now , if i still have trouble i will look into a pump etc.

I would advise in getting a dealership to flash a stock ECU program back on the car; it sounds like the GIAC is being overzealous with the timing advance, hence the aggressive knocking. This seems to be common with GIAC flashes.
You do not need to do anything major with the fuel system. You do not make anywhere near the power for that sort of surgery!
For the mods you have, 380cc/min injectors, preferably OEM JCW, would be sufficient. When you go with a ported cylinder head, you'll need 440cc/min. I've heard that there is a Bosch injector that fits without modification in the MINI, but I'm unsure of the model.

i was told the knock sensor worked at 10 degree's at a time up to 30.
i am looking at a pile of venders right now , it looks like 380 is the norm for a mild injector.
whats strange is the fact that the car was fine for a while after doing the giac tune along with the header and exhaust. (all was done within 2 days of one another) its gotten worse since :(
