Drivetrain Back by Popular Demand: Jan at Helix in Jan.
Good god. Why so early? I guess if everyone is leaving that early, I could get my lazy behind up.

And ... yours will be next.

Man, I just can't get over how much smoother the car is now and how much more fun all the extra torque is...
It was really great to meet everybody on Tuesday - I started to feel really bad that my car took so long to get everything started, but everybody was cool.
Thanks AGAIN to Jan, Eric, and Ralph. Cheers everybody, great event.

Initial test driven report:
Feel really different, much better throttle response. Smoothier rev up.
In the city, it is easier to drive from better torque all across the board.
Driving around the suburb and keep the rpm around 3k to 5k zipping through light traffic area is so much fun.
Quicker over all, really enjoyable to drive. Make me want to go all the way to the already raised red line.
Go up and beyond 6.5k rpm quicker than before. Yeah..... I love it.
I agreed with PGT, the car now feel like it loves to rev (a honda/Acura feel) with much better torque.
fun..fun..fun..
It would be more fun with lighter wheels set, I think.
Now, with a GTI, a SI and Mazda speed 3, it will be a close match.
On the other hand, oh, well ...... we're still in January and I ran out of budget already, again.

easier to drive is right! no bucking from the throttle...just quick takeup and easy smooth acceleration. after a day of driving mine, it doesn't feel fast until I look down at the speedo.
I took my buddy for a ride yesterday....he's home from Baghdad for a training and has a modded STI with a Cosworth motor going in. He couldn't believe how fast my car was.
Doesn't have the turbo/torque surge like an R56 down low but stay in the throttle and it accelerates harder as you rev.

I'm a junior in college right now and I got lucky that was able to have a schedule nice enough to be able to come up and get my car tuned.
School and work kills my time.
But I may look into that, not much happens around here with Minis.
Basicly a stock JCW with a schrick cam. How good is that!!!, on the heartbreaker dyno. I don't think the smile would wear off my face after a week

Dyno
I am scheduled for the dyno tune tomorrow (Friday).
Just got a call from Helix that a sensor in the dyno went down.
Replacement parts are ordered for next morning delivery.
They do not anticipate getting started again until about noon tomorrow at the earliest, (assuming that the part actually arrives....)
Looks like I will delay the start of my trip accordingly.....

Yes, unexpected issue with the dyno. We're trying to reschedule with some of the folks that showed up today. Jan's awesome enough to stay another day (Wednesday). Are any of the folks scheduled for this Monday able to switch to Wednesday?
Thanks in advance

4 1/2 hour ride home in rush hour traffic and snow. Man that was the worst drive ever!
On a positive note it was good to finally meet Jan and some new NAM members but I might need to wait until Jan's next visit for my Tune.

Man Jeff that's terrible that it took you that long to get home. howsoonisnow1985 was nice enough to give me a place to stay tonight. Hopefully the issue with helix's dyno is resolved on Friday. So I can get my tune and make the trip back. To be honest it's nice to not have to work tomarro or to have had to drive home in the snow.
To everyone at the shop with us today, I feel so bad that you guys made the trip and we couldn't get the dyno working. Hopefully the sensor comes in tomorrow morning and we will be able to get the dyno running properly by lunch time.
