Under-sized Bearings

Well I spun my #3 bearing and had my crank checked to see if it's turnable and it is... However... The only under-sized bearing's the dealer sells are 10 thousands and I need 20 thousands... Anybody know where I can get a set or am I s.o.l. and now need to buy a new crank? And do I need to have the crank main bearing journals turned as well because they are not damaged!!!

If you need bearings, check in your phone book for a specialty bearing shop. If you live near Philly i could get you directions to a shop in Pottstown that does bearings for any imaginable application. If not you might be able to find something similar to where you live.

You can always go to another aftermarket car tuner (I.E. one for SRT's, Evo's, etc.) if you know the specs.... It's an option if you have nowhere else to turn.

so just the rod big end? seems a common mallady with this car . you should be able to just do the big ends and leave the mains alone . maybe jan or endyne.

Well the rod's are forged and snapped off so they have to be a "perfect" match or else this will happen again....

Elaborate on "if I know the spec's" because I have all the journal sizes and bore sizes and every measurement for the block and internal's... But what can I do, have a set of bearing's made???

Looking at a couple online sources for MINI parts, I see prices of $1225-1460
for a new MCS crankshaft with bearing shells,
or $585-774 for a remanufactured one with bearing shells.

Interestingly the cast MC crank is the same price as the forged MCS one new,
and only about $75 cheaper for the remanufactured ones.

you can get your cranked welded up, and ground back to stock, or .010 under on the one, and grind the rest down to .010 so they are all done and new. Might be hard to find a place to do this tho, im blessed enough to have a shop that specializes in crankshafts about an hour from me.

They have phones in Canada...

and the shipping is shipping. If you value it as worthless as a used car part, there are no duties as well.

Lots of places used to spray (not like spraypaint though) metal onto cranks and cams to build them up prior to resurfacing. Don't know if it's a lost art or not.....

If you're on a budget, what Beecher suggested is the least expensive way to get you back on the road, just find a good speedshop in your area in the phonebook, if they don't do it, they'll know who does.........

As an aside, I heard this is basically the same motor used in the Neon, any crossover there?

i would just have it shipped to the states anyway. Was it a main or rod big end you spun? I mentioned this in the marketplace thread, but if im not working tomorrow, i will phone my local shop to see, that way you have at least one idea on cost. We will see what happens before we start into the shipping conundrum. I have so many planned upgrades right now, it hurts my brain just trying to decide what to do first (just a teaser, standalone ecu, independent throttle bodies, race cam, and maybe some more displacement as well, well actually, the ecu has to come before the cam and bodies anyway, but a head is also in the works, but beefing internals might be my best place to start).

Do you see what i mean. I should never make a plan without a schedule, cause this is where it leads me. haha
