a big older German dude driving a new 760IL with factory plates told us to scram. The fact we had keys to the garage next to theirs didn't seem to matter. Nice people, them.

Had PTG done any drag cars before? If not seems like a real odd choice by MINI USA.

why? they campaign BMW's in most pro road racing. Seems a natural shop to turn to to do a build

How does road racing experience give you drag racing credentials?

I would bet that BMW pushed for PTG.... A..... and 2.... BMW thinks drag racing is a joke... and those who do it are (and I quote) "Gypsies" ... but those who have drives 400+ WHP minis will tell you... it's not joke.... even today getting on the high way... I was crusin and realize I needed to step on it and change lanes... LOL I was using one hand... and that quickly changed as I throttled down... LOL... ooohhh so silly

but just cause you race X doesn't mean you know squat about Y... and that's a fact...

BMW obviously had success with PTG before, backing their M3 race cars. One would hope they'd do a competent build for MINI, but as Tuls said, perhaps they didn't take the job seriously.

It was probably a scheme dreamt up by the advertising department. All show, hope it goes...

MINI didn't really have much of a choice at first. So I agree it made sense that they would choose PTG with their racing credentials. It is still curious though that they would do an unprofessional job.

My theory is they didn't take it seriously... thinking... "how hard can it be it's going straight" and through a bunch of interns on it...

This hurts to read... I hate PT cruisers. Seriously I think I am tearing up. Never compare a PT cruiser to a mini! I sure hope the Mini engine has more research and development than a PT.

When I rebuild this engine, I will definatly seek out my bore and stroke options. It doesn't sound like anyone is ready to give up any info on their version of this engine overhaul, but I hope there is someone out there who does this as a passion and would be willing to share details with me so I don't have to attempt this on my own like I did with my cylinder head. My best friend is a cylinder head machinist and an engine builder. I am a painter/body man. Our trades work out great =)

WTF! Not many prodution car bottom ends can handle that kind of power. An LS1 starts to flex a lot at about 550-600. A 5.0 will crack the galley at 500. Thats the territory of 3JZ Supra's, some earlier 4.6 Cobras and the Terminator Cobra. The early 4.6 mod motor Cobra bottom end can take about 7-800 while the 3JZ and Terminator (2003-2004) Cobra will handle 800-1000 on the factory short block. Ford got it right with them when they used ARP bolts, Manley rods and JE pistons as a factory assembled bottom end.

first of all... you're not going to get info by digging at them.
second of all... information isn't free. What is your hobby for your car is another mans passion and career. Just because you think it would be neat to diy this... doesn't mean he should have to give up the research he's done for it.

etc etc.

I think it would be neat of we all held hands and sang kum-by-ahhh around a tritec hoping it will magically become faster... but it's not going to happen... boring this beast out takes time, money and knowledge... none of those items are any where near free... or even out for loan.

400 WHP , I couldn't even imagine that. Is that turbo only? I know you have a FMIC. No 2.0 conversion? What about the CV joints? How do they not blow apart? Is this a track car, in the eyes of DMV, only?
