and a third possibly more important one....CAFE. bigger motors take more fuel. keep in mind many countries levy tax by displacement. 1.6L is very common in other markets.....the MINI needs to be competitive there and it's probably as much about this as anything.

Very true. I was in Singapore and tax and licensing was done on displacement so you rarely ever saw engines larger than 2.0 L. And few to NONE SUVs or American Pickup trucks. Only small cars 1.0 to 1.8L mostly.

MINI could have made 1.6L for the world and 2.0 L for the US, Ha!

Even 2.2 L?

The test car was with turbo?
The test car is a MINI GP with the El D head, stroker kit, custom cam, and exhaust, the car is partially tuned, though there's more work to be done from what I understand. He's still running the stock JCW pulley and intake.

Good grief that car is AWSOME fast!! It was way too fast to take past 6000 RPM. Fastest car I ever drove. And with Cross suspension, it was on rails, even with runflats...

My excitement is almost palpable. This must come with a new head, cam, tune and everything. I need to hurry up and graduate college and get a real job to afford all of this.

Please don't be offended, but after driving that car and getting back into a 220 hp. MCS, it's like returning to life before you had sex. Instant torque.

My rectopuckometer says 300 hp. and 250 ft. lb. tq. But it has not been calibrated.

on 91 octane?!!

What was also amazing was how quick it revved. Lightened crank and light flywheel. Clutch took some getting used to, but it was as easy to depress as stock.

Yea, it's not quite that extreme, he's still running the stock M45, it's the torque curve that you're feeling, not the HP. He's probably pushing 250 WHP and 210-220 ft/lbs of torque. The blower is the bottleneck at this point. Once he gets the rotrex on there, it's a whole different ball game .

FWIW a lightened flywheel will work wonders on any MCS, even the 1.6. Having never driven the stroker I can't comment on it's throttle response. I have driven Danny's car quite a few times though and I can assure you, that thing goes. Not only does it go, but the throttle response is ridiculous

That is crazy!!!! I think it was last year when that Castle was up for sale. I hope Pepperdine survives the fires, they are one of my customers. I pray the fire is put out quickly.

BTW I think my next mod is the Lighten fly wheel and maybe an 06 tranny if I can keep my cruise control

I think the more interesting question is whether or not it makes any sense, given the likely cost. (I mean, besides the satisfaction of having a longer sig than the next guy, which is.. priceless I guess. )

I am thinking about that a few years.

Does has the PT cruiser the same engine (outside) like MINI? There is a 2.4l Turbo.
Just thinking....

it all depends on what you want and how fast do you want to go

there is no comparison between it and a 1.6L engine

I know that a SRT-4 Neon's engine block was made in the same factory that ours was. They got a 2.4l, I think there has been some of those swaps, but it has been a while. I am pretty sure they had the same "blueprint" though(that is what all of the posts talked about with those swaps).

A well tuned R53 will get you almost 200 ft-lb. tq. Increasing displacement 25%, but with longer stroke instead of bigger bore, should get you at least 25% more torque. It felt that strong anyway, IMHO. Hence, my estimate of 250 ft-lb. tq.

Huh, and here I was fishing for a flame. Fair enough.

When you say no comparison, you're talking about torquey gruntness? Sounds good. We're all working with such a puny engine – it's odd that it's taken so long to viably increase displacement here.

I do hope you'll be back around Philly / northeast next spring.

Do you have any more info? I haven't been able to find any info about successful swaps.

Ahh, I've bin building my car in phases. The last phase was major engine work. I thought i would be building a strong 1.6. Now I see I need to save up alot more money and build a 2.0 mini. I'm drooling at the thought already.
