Okay I did a little searching and came back empty-handed. When I was under the car installing various suspension components a few weeks back my friend pointed out to me a section of my exaust , near the middle of the car ahead of the mufflers that was um... crimped. It looked like someone put the pipe in a vice before building the exaust system.
This is an '06 factory installed JCW system and it appears very intentional. His remark was something like "That looks horribly restrictive!" And I agree. Does anyone know why there is a huge crimp in my exaust?
When the JCW kit became a factory option the crimp in the exhaust began to appear. Aparently it is needed on convertable cars for clearance. I assume that they decided to make one pipe that would fit both. Some people here have cut the restriction out but I don't think there were any big gains.

This is true if one does count the proverbial BUTT DYNO, but not so true in actuality. It will sound better, and will burble (kind of like the GPs) but the improvement is not necessarily in the performance.
I DO NOT have the crimp and I have removed my resonator and I sincerely doubt any exhaust system made coud be better in sound. I haven't heard them all, but I've heard quite a few.
Anyhoo - the crimp was added to make Cabrios a JCW worthy vessel as well.

Sorry, but putting a crimp in the exhaust does not even come close to making the Cabrio a worthy JCW vessel.
