Anybody else jealous that the R56 owners get such sweet looking CAIs?

Already there have been 2 drool-inducing CAI set-ups introduced. It's almost enough to get a guy wanting an R56! The only drawback is they don't look easy to remove in the event of a smog check like an R53 CAI.

That M7 intake seems to dominate the engine bay.

Are looks really the goal of a CAI?

I know I wouldnt trade my R50 for an R56...ever! Even if they have the schnazzy turbo. I would rather fab my own... I like our body style. They can have the CAI.

uhhhh.....looks !> performance. Show me it makes a difference more than 5hp with no downsides (yes, $600+ price for 5hp is a bit excessive) and then you have my attention.

Yeah...anyone who has owned a turbo'd car would never say such a thing! BTW, I dig the look of the M7 intake but since it is a M7 product...it killed the whole thought...lol

Not jealous at all. Function over looks is first in my book with a part such as a CAI. I'm certainly not jealous that the unproven M7 R56 CAI is 3 times the price of a quality R53 one.

Sure it is....but it also cost 3x as much to make, and it will be some time before I recover the R&D cost, mold cost, prototype expenses, minimum buy in for custom filters, minimum orders for the MAF to filter interface, cost of hardware (plastic and metal), special ordered aluminum M7 plaque cnc'd
and anodized (did I tell you that there is minimum orders) cost of dyno testing over and over again..... paying my employees for wiring the car up with datalogging equipment, advertising cost in magazines and a lot of money to NAM for the opportunity to write this post etc etc etc.

So with this little list of how to make a part, and the reason for the cost of said part...... Nathan I hope you understand why there's no comparison to the R53 (you pick the intake) cost.

"Anybody else jealous...?"

No.

My intake looks sweet enough.

AND I also have a real WORKING hood scoop!

Oh I understand why it costs more. A box like R53 has is easy to make unlike the sculptured freeform part for the R56. Plus there are lot more R53's out there right now to sell to. Going to take a while to recoup the initial costs. Thats why you don't see every vendor with an R56 CAI like you do with the R53.

Trying to compare an R53 CAI with and R56 CAI is comparing apples to banana.

Besides, I prefer the R53 to the R56. Cost of mods is yet another reason why.

R53 CAI vs R56 CAI is more like:

vs

At least R56 owners have a choice for CAI
Pretty cool stuff.

Wonder how I could retrofit that on my R53?
Wait, Half the air would have to go to the IC and half to the CAI!
