i know... there is no such thing. BUT, i'm tired of advertizing. my milltek resonator is blown out and with the header, my car is VERY loud. i'm looking to replace the resonator with a performance muffler that quiets the sound down as much as possible, without hindering exhaust flow.

please no posts telling me to put the stock system back on, i just want a universal fit muffler (2.5" inlet and exhaust) that will fit.

thoughts on magnaflow, dynomax, spintech, or others that i haven't heard of?

Im kinda in the same boat with you man. i have a single muffler custom system. I need to replace the muffler i have and add a resonator, so any input would be great.

I have tried multiple mufflers and arrangements with my car and it has driven me crazy. This is what worked for my mini,
Two magna flow 16'' in line resonators and a dual 2 1/4 three chambered magnaflow muffler setup with the outlets firing into each other with an outlet out the side of the pipes where they connect out the back of the car. i will try and get a pic for you. I also found that if you have any header, a quiet rig is almost impossible. It might be in your best interest to put the stock one back on and remove the pre-cat. I find that to be the best for sound and very important, driveability. Also a giant blanket in your trunk can quiet things down in the cab for those long road trips.

check out this link to see magnaflows similar design and enlarge the pic- http://www.planetmagnaflow.com/shop/...-15742-49.html

Its kind of like this but with three chambered mufflers and an extra resonator. I know it sounds like alot but hey, its a 1.6!!! and a fast quiet mini is really hard to achieve.

i understand that a truly quiet system will be impossible with a header/race cat. i'm trying to get as quiet as "possible" without losing flow. i want to stay away from chambered mufflers unless they were big enough. i think what you are describing is close to one design i've come up with.

i was thinking of replacing each of the mufflers on the rear section with chambered mufflers (like the magnaflow XL or dynomax super turbo) of at least 2" ID. the pipes on the milltek are 1.75 each on the rear section, so i don't think would lose any flow back there. then i would find the biggest straight through muffler i could fit right behind the cat.

i will probably do the straight through muffler first and see what that does before doing the rear section. lucky for me, i have an extra milltek rear section to play with.

is that similar to what you have, or did you use ONE dual outlet magnaflow XL with two pipes coming out of it?

I have had about 6 exhaust and I'm the happiest with the Borla Sport. Its not the best looking but it got me good dyno numbers and my girlfriend approves. When I go the head and cam my car became crazy loud. Borla makes a race and sport. Bola says they flow the same it is just a sound difference.

i googled borla and came up with a "street" and "sport" system that borla makes for the mini. the "sport" is also know as the "race" version. so do you have this one:

CTMO, how about a part number for the chambered mufflers please? I don't see any chambered mufflers listed on the link in post#5. What diameter straight through muffler fit in the rear heat shield channel?

Did you like your Milltek? If so, unless you bought it used, it has a lifetime warranty. Just a thought.

i emailed them (stratmosphere) this weekend, should hear back monday. if it does have a lifetime warranty i will certainly get the resonator replaced. i really liked the sound of the milltek. it slowly got louder over the 3 years i had it, but not bad enough to replace. but now that the header is on, it's just too much. i pretty much have a straight pipe and two teeny mufflers in the back.

i tried searching stratmophere's website and did not see any warranty info on it, that's why i emailed asking what the warranty was. do you remember where you saw that it was a lifetime warranty?

Also, I live 20 min. from Stratmosphere and have asked them about it a few time over the phone and in person.

Has anyone tried using a Flowmaster (or pair) on the MINI? Maybe a 50 or 60 series, or even the Deltaflow ones. I have a 50 series Deltaflow on my V6 S10 and it's not "loud" at all. More sound outside, than inside the cab.

A resonator is almost a necessity for getting rid of the drone, but was curious what this setup would sound like.

One thing to keep in mind - the rear of the MINI is not sound insulated at all. Very little sound deadening material used anywhere.
So, you can invest in some Dynamat or =, or deal with the loud. I found this out when working on something for the rear of my car. As soon as I took the carpet and foam, along with the folding parts for the rear seats out, it got louder and noisier. Mainly road noise.

One last thing. The flat orientation of the floor pan and the mufflers causes a perfect condition for an acoustic standing wave. The major contributor for drone.

dynomax isnt bad but still pretty loud. I too am looking into the same thing. I think im just gonna modify the stock exhaust instead. when my friend ran the milltek it wasnt that bad though. whatever you do dont go magnaflow anything if you dont want noise

the milltek was awesome... until the resonator blew out. now it's too loud. i'm still waiting to here from stratmosphere about replacing the resonator under warranty. i'm going to try that first.

if i had to design a system i would probably use a similar setup to the borla street, but use 2.5" tubing and a straight thru muffler on the front section instead of the 2.25" pipe they use.
