TURBO BOOST GAUGE INSTALLATION R56-S

Hi there,

Have anybody installed a turbo gauge in one of our jewels. I am about to

order the new flex pod for my R56-S but will like to know before I buy, where or how to hook the boost gauge to the system.

Having the same problem. The options are to tap the manifold, or (for less accuracy) take out the noisemaker and put a plug w/ a vacuum fitting in there.

I haven't looked under the manifold, but this is where I'm at @ this point.

Guys: ALTA2 and I should be completing the R56 ALTA Gauge System installation either today or early this week in Howard. It will show clearly how to connect boost, EGT, and potentially, water temp, oil temp etc. Hate to say be patient, but be patient and I will get you the info you need.

Sidenote: These new gauge kits are going to really be a hit. Amber back light, white during the day, opening ceremony, peak hold, FULLY electronic (so no tubes or oil lines traversing the firewall) and with pods, less than $269.99 (final pricing TBD)

Thanks guys and gals!

Excellent, my only real gripe with this car is the lack of gauges.

Anybody know a good reference where I could learn the importance of all of the different guages? I mean, I know what most of them do, I've just never had a car where I could monitor the boost, water/oil temp, etc. I'm curious as to the importance of such instruments. For example, what is the function of being able to know what level boost you are running at a certain instance? Thanks from a forced induction n00b.

We have NEW pods with gauges coming out on both the R53 and R56. I thought we would have the website updated today, but there was a lack of proper photos that were being finished up when I left. Sorry for the delay folks!
ltjpunk7: Good questions. My vote is first to monitor things not covered by the OEM idiot lights and gauges. So boost, oil temp, water temp in the case of the R56, exhaust gas temps etc. But the choice is yours. On my car the first two are going to be Boost and Exhaust Temp up on the column on our new pods. I might also add one more up there for water temp. If not I will mount those (oil AND water temp) under the switches. My personal opinion is the oil pressure is not really needed as the idiot light will come on for that, boost is great to monitor all the connections are holding etc. and or that i didn't ingest a bird into the turbo or something. EGT is good for monitoring proper tune etc.

Hope that helps. If not let me know!

So correct me if I'm wrong, but the majority of these add-on guages are simply make-sure-nothing-has-effed-up-guages...correct? So are they really that necessary, as most of our cars won't ever have problems necessitating these early warnings? It's just that if this is something that will help me monitor/tune my performance, I would love to add them, but for a man on a budget, I might rather spend a few hundred bones upgrading my intake or springs. Thanks for any enlightenment.

The only gauge I really would like is water temp/engine temp. Never owned a car that didn't have this.

I'd really like the water temp & oil temp gauges to make sure the car isn't overheating and that the oil has come up to temp before driving.

I think the oil temp would be very nice to have in a Turbo car since it take sa while for the oil the warm up, even after the idiot temp gauge shows the car as warmed up.

Is there an idiot light to tell you the car is warmed up or do you mean the temp light that tells you the car is too hot?

Adam,
I respectfully disagree on the oil pressure. if anything is going to tell you and forewarn you of impending doom, it's oil pressure. If your driving along at 60 mph and your pressure is 50 lbs and suddenly drops to 15lbs, thats enough to keep the idiot light off, but you would look into the oil pressure problem be fore it got ugly. IMHO

Just the regular "temp" gauge. That thing is so inaccurate it's almost worthless. In the M-cars, they have the yellow LED's that suggests the max revs until the oil's warm. Thos lights stay on a long time after the idiot gauge shows the temp to be warm.

I'd like to know infos about the engine, especially cause it's turbocharged... On the airplane I fly we have a lot of infos from the sensors; one of the most important is the EGT since where there is a turbine you need to know the EGT cause if it gets too high you can burn the inside blades ...

Hey Guys,

This is the reason why we are offering a multitude of choices. At the current setup the gauges and pods are sold in pairs. But we can certainly do just one pod/gauge too. They are working very hard to get this on the web ASAP.

Thanks again folks!

Minidrivr: The simple answer is yes. They will be set up to make installation as easy as possible. You will get wiring, but will need to tap into the harness using supplied connectors etc. More info ASAP sorry for the delay!
