Where to buy an used supercharger??

Do anyone knows where I can find an used supercharger for my Cooper S Automatic, 6/2005. My car have had a damage in the right front and now it comes with an errorcode P 1498, which is unmetered air after compressor. We have searched for a leak somewhere without any luck, but we think it may be the charger which have had a little crash at the beltdrive. Or do someone knows if someone can repair a Supercharger for a Mini.

I'm not sure I'd start there....

there are places that can pressure test the intake path to look for leaks. Find one that has the equipement. If it is the SC, check eBay, the Marketplace or post a "Want to Buy" add in the marketplace...

FWIW, I have an SC, but it's got a stuck 15% pulley on it. If you are totally in a pinch, you can have it for pretty cheap, and have Stegemeier re-work it (they do the bearings, the lubrication, and check the case over for issues and fix them). I think the basic rebuild is $250, and you can have more done (including porting an polishing) for a bit more....

Hope this helps, and PM me if you need a SC core.

Matt

PM "checkers" about this problem. He is one of our club members, and I was talking to him yesterday and his car is currently in the shop, where they're trying to chase after the same code. He's also got an '05 automatic, and he's been told that there is some plastic tube part attached to the intake manifold that fails on '05 automatics and causes vacuum problems - or at least something that throws that code. Apparently, the part is different for automatic cars than for cars with manuals.

A dealer might know about the problem, and/or have received a bulletin about it.

Yes I have also found that there is a service measure about P1498 and it says that you must replase plastic air duct before charger and is giving a new partnumber, but that is only for manual transmission. I know it because I have bought a new plastic air duct and would replace it in the last weekend, but it did´nt fit to an Automatic version, so I don´t think it is the problem. I have looked for leaks about the intercooler, but this is ok. I have sealed it with the same sealer as you use with replacing frontglass.

Wha???

did you seal with windshield glue? IF it's anywhere around the IC this was a very BAD IDEA! The IC gets very very hot and it will cook the crap out of anything there. You must make sure that anything in that area is supposed to work on hot stuff. The stock seals and clamps (if in good shape) are just fine for sealing the IC. You don't need any glue or sealer. If you do, then something isn't right.

The plastic tube (yes, it's different on the auto than manual) is much, much more likely to crack than the SC itself. Even though the parts are different, they are both brittle plastic that can crack or worse. If this is the fault, you wouldn't be the first on to suffer the same fate.... FWIW, I have heard of cracks that only show up under vacuum, and some that are worse and put the car into limp mode.

Anyway, if you don't know where to go next because it's not obvious, you'll either spend lots of time hunting and pecking hoping to get lucky, or you could call someone who's really good (With the right tools) to find your leaks. Your choice....

I have 2 times taken the plastic air induct off (big job, takes a whole day)and I can´t see any small damage on it. But off course if BMW says that it is a bad part and it must be replaced if P1498 is stored, then perhaps I need to replace it to come further. My P1498 always comes when I am driving with low speed, just before the car holds still, never when I am driving with normal load or acceleration.
