JCW Exhaust kit & Sound.

I just had the JCW exhaust installed on my 06 cooper S.
http://www.parts.com/partlocator/ind...catalogid=3751

This system doesn't sound as throaty as I've seen and herd. I have the JCW air filter installed as well... would having headers installed increase the sound of the exhaust. It sounds pretty muffled, I have herd numerious people say remove the resonator ??

Also if I could get some direction on what I could have installed next to increase the performance and overall sound.

Thanks again for the feed back!

I came across that, would make it pass smog if I had that installed?

I found that after ~15k miles, the exhaust sound slightly louder with deeper tone. The "pop" sound is more pronouced.

Love it.

Yes, ours has gotten distinctly louder and more resonant over time - not 15k miles though, we barely have that many miles on the car

jcw exhaust

I have the same issue with my jcw exhaust. A fellow namer some it up this way about the resonator and the header.

Yeah, before trying to make the exhaust any louder, I'd suggest a header first, because my JCW exhaust was way TOO LOUD for me afterwards. I've actually plumbed both 6" diameter and 4" diameter Magnaflows into the JCW system to make it nearly as quiet as the stock MCS exhaust now, except with a low rumble.

If you are looking for a little louder sound, it's probably a great idea to try the stock JCW system first with any header, before even condidering removing the resonator (the header improves performance too, but removing the resonator only adds noise). You might even decide it's too loud and change the resonator out to a larger one like I did.

I did try the JCW exhaust with no resonator and the snapping and popping was unbelievable--even before the header. It was fun at first because I could get pedestrians to dive for cover, but it got old kinda quick.

I am saving my money for a OBX header

you would suggest going for a header, I was talking to yakimini and he suggested the mini-madness headers.

The mini-madness headers looks good, but I am going for OBX because of the price (300.00 with oem cat) also alot of Namers have obx on their mini and are please.

I say the JCW w/o the resonator is the way to go, plus it is cheaper than buying a header and all. I love it w/o the resonator.
