New Guy - First Post -> GIAC?

Hey everyone - new R56 owner (first mini) as of last thursday. Love this little weasel, even if it is a FWD vehicle!

Anyways, since its a 1.8T, I was wondering if anyone of you "in the know" knows if GIAC or ??? currently has, or is working on a chip for our turbo cars....

My prior experience with GIAC and modding an ex Passat with a 1.8T was awesome (still have that chip and should sell it). I was hoping to hear that boost could be increased as well as A/F across the rev range.

So, anyone know where I can pick up a few pounds of boost?

This car is a blast to drive. I grab the keys to it before my wife can, and thats saying alot since the other daily driver is an E39 Dinan M5!

Its a 1.6t my friend, and a very different beast than the older vw motors. Its a lot closer to a 2.0t with respect to direct injection and all the other cool new stuff. Giac doesn't have a chip for the car, but you can pick up a few ponies from exhausts (alta, milltek, quicksilver, etc.) and the alta and other intakes are coming out soon. Mini madness has a few parts for the r56 S that should help a lot too. Read up, lots of good stuff to be had here.

Welcome and cheers!

I went to their site and was hoping for a number...I used to have one since I purchased a chip for the 1.8T on the passat, just cant seem to find it...

Anyways, I dont think direct injection should be an obstacle on increasing boost from a reprogram perspective.

1.6...wow. The little bastich pulls pretty good for such a small motor!

The R56 chip appears to be a pretty complicated beast....an uphill climb for aftermarket tuners. I don't know if anything is on the horizon other than the JCW kit...that's all I've heard of.

i've had my previous 1.8T GIAC'ed too, then went on to a Beemer and couldn't find an effective chip/flash for the 523i that i had. from what i've seen, these are two very different camps and the programming behind the Beemer chips seems much harder, with only a select few capable e.g. dinan, DMS... that said, since the MINI is also a peugot collaboration we might see some more tuners come on board for a slice of the bigger market. I have the MCSa and I'm sure you'll agree with me that the electronics and presentation are BMW's 100%.

Read the dates of the thread...its over a year old. Thus why it seems like a dumb question.

Aaaah, I see, now I know why it's called dope. The '70's obviously were a little too good to me!
