DDMWorks CAI for R56

Hello Everyone,

We are just about finished testing on our new intake for the R56. Testing will be finished this week, and production thereafter. The intake fits over the bottom of the stock intake and uses a 2 stage foam filter like our other MINI intakes. There will also be an option for the intake to be fed air from the hood scoop, which we are also testing. More details to come.

Take Care,
Dave

Someone please post a picture of the stock setup?

Where the heck is this thing getting air? Is there a hole to the cowl like with the previous r53?

I have a feeling that none of these are going to work as well as possible until we figure out a way to get a new larger MAF in there. There are plenty of other cars that deal with these stupid MAF pieces. The FORD mustang guys swap out to a larger one. Think we can steal one off a 325i?

The aesthetic of that airbox is excellent [very industrial and functional looking], however it also looks heavy! Are you guys using a cone type filter within the airbox?

Trinity07 - Can you hear the turbo and blow off with your CAI?
Answer- That version of the intake is just as quiet as stock.

sdv515 - thats a nice looking intake box. matches the engine bay nicely, what do you think the price will be.
Answer - We are not sure of pricing yet, depends on what the piece costs to produce.

-Vampyre- Pics of the hood scoop setup please.
Answer - They are coming soon!

Ryephile - The aesthetic of that airbox is excellent [very industrial and functional looking], however it also looks heavy! Are you guys using a cone type filter within the airbox?
Answer - Thanks for the compliment, the box is heavier than stock, about 8oz more. We are using a foam filter like the one we use in the R53 intake, pic is attached.

Just a little update, testing continues on the intake. Temperature of the incoming air is not the only thing that needs to be considered with the new intake, and that is when our manometer comes out. Lots of testing with that. Also we had to change the intake a little to make sure it fits another product that we are working on in the engine bay .

Can you please annotate the R56 versus the older R53's etc on your website. Makes for ease of browsing.

And when is this CAI going to become available?

UPDATE PLEASE

can someone elaborate on this for me? is the amount of air the MAF can detect based on its size? this is the MAF sensor right? how does moving to a larger sensor help the ECU determine the A/F ration? thanks in advance
Bryan

Well we are done with the "other part" that we have been working on. As you can see it runs right in front of the intake and needed to be done before we could finish the intake scoop.

Also changes are in the works for the website to split things up between the R56 and the R53, thanks for the suggestion!

The strut brace needs to be a different color. The yellow coupled with the industrial feel makes it look like it came right of a Bulldozer. I keep looking for CAT to be stamped on it someplace.

The production version will be offered in other colors with the default being black. We did the yellow so that it would show up in pictures, otherwise it was really hard to see against the astro black. Although if anyone wants one in yellow with a big CAT sticker on it, we probably can arrange it.

Personally I like under the hood mods to be suuuuper bright. I like sleeper cars (the MINI is one of the best) but I like people to be able to see what I've done if they look under the hood (or bonnet in this case) or peer at my suspension.

I will keep everyone updated on the strut bar over in the suspension section here:
https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...d.php?t=110907

We made a couple little tweaks for fitment over the weekend to the intake and bar. We are building the new prototypes now just to confirm fitment with each other, the car, etc. They look great!
