(Part 2) Ahhh my fuel ratio saga!

https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...d.php?t=100718 <-- for part one of this
Just got back from Ferman Mini today where Pat Wallis thier lead tech who also runs his own racing team and Pat Wallis Motor Sport. I paid to have my used 03 Mini looked at after the recent sub-par dyno run. I ended up needing a new tensioner, my live wires were coroded to the point the conector broke of when plugs were checked pat hooked me up with some spare stock wires, Crank was ok but was already tightened by myself days earlier, and probably the worse power loss is that my plugs were not tightened! to the point i was probably loosing compression in all cylinders. To top off the plug issue Pat said the irridiums i had were (6's)1 step colder than stock (5's). He said i should be running (7's) and that it could be causing the ECU ****'s to pull timming. So far the butt dyno is happy Im guessing due to having all my compression now.

Soooo, next update will be after I have added the better plugs . replaced stock wires with MSD brand since i got the screemin deamon on there already. and possibly ill have the bypass mod installed. Ill hopefully do my gauges that day so we can get some boost info and what not.

(+1) Pat Walis @ Ferman Mini
(+1) for butt dyno
(-1) Should have been corrected before car was sold :/

176hp 162ftlbs before corrections
Current HP/TQ TBD

Im stoked And thanks for all the help from my prievious post AHHHH my AFR.

NGK specs heat range 6 as the replacement for MCS OEM plugs. According to NGK's heat range numbering system, 7 would be one stage colder than stock.

Glad you've got a good tech looking after you!

Ya im sure I was mistaken. The last few weeks have been MINI information overload as with the focus i was there before the first intake was out for it so I followed it since 2000. With the mini im jumping into a car already modded $7,000 worth of stuff and trying to figure out all the quirks like the ECU *****. Nothing is harder to figure out than where to start on a heavily modded car that you dont know whats on it lol. Im about up to speed on this car though and its now even more of a blast after the compression fix makes it feel like I gained 20ftlbs thru the entire band since i bought it. Anyways Ill update soon.

Best part is it feels like i got all the easy stuff done for free and im ready for a head and tunning to get me in the 200's then its off to quaife/Susp work.

Oh also found out I have the old Alta swaybar in the rear with 2 holes whats the stiffness settings for each im on the softer of the 2 and it seems a bit neutral with a tendancy to plow this is on stock susp only the bar.

More Umph than a whistler tip!!! NGK 1 step cooler

Holy carp or crap or carp crap!

I just installed the NGK 7's (one step cooler) on the driveway and it is night and day. During high 80's outside temps almost 90's. The car pulls harder than it did on high 60's damp mornings. I got to be right there around 190 hp and ?? TQ. I did alot of reading on the plugs here on this forum and was sceptical to feel any improvement but I really do.

Felt Changes/Notes
  • Smoother thru the RPM Range. I had a lurch buck when letting of throttle in low RPM's. This is gone and replaced with a stronger smoother pull.
  • Power! I don't know how much but its butt dyno noticeable for sure. Like I said Earlier more power during the hotest part of the day than before on the coolest part.
  • I believe It really helps Cylinder temps and reduces timing/fuel ****'s from stating there march.
  • Will get it on the dyno ASAP and see what she looks like
Quick Question: Anyone know what my rev limit should be and what it would be if I was sporting JCW software? Im Shifting either 7k or 7200 RPM. I definitely do not see a chip.

I'm not 100% sure but fairly sure that the JCW software makes no or almost no change to the rev limiter. Stock is 6850, i'd be surprised if JCW was 7k.
