panel (vertical) ding...will PDR work?

Great

Picked up my brand new MCS yesterday and after spending all day detailing it I noticed a 3" "sharp" vertical line (ding) in the driver's side rear quarter panel with absolutely no paint damage. It's quite low down, so it doesn't look like a door impact.

Any paintless dent repairers on here? Are there any areas of the MINI that are totally inaccessible to PDR and would require conventional bodywork? My car's dark silver and I can't stand the thought of them repainting a "brand new" car.

I've not had chance to take it back to the dealership yet, but I'm fearing the worst .

I found a scratch on my 10 day old S, I called the dealer and they said they can try and buff it out. Now I have to find the time to get back to the dealer.

Good luck with yours. Could it be shipping damage?

I suppose it could be shipping damage, but they're supposed to check for that kind of stuff once it gets off the boat and repair it at the VDC. I'm guessing it was done at the dealership, but because I asked them not to detail it before delivery they didn't spot it and repair it.

I know the Dent Wizard guys can work wonders, but only if the damage is accessible.

I bet you it was caused by hitting a vertical support for one of the dealers garage lifts. This has happened to me.

PDR should take care of it as long as the dent isn't a "hard crease".

I have a dent now in my Mini and I am told it is removable. Hope to get it fixed this week. It also is a 3"+ vertical hit.

Brad,
Thanks for your input. Mine's a much sharper crease than that; almost like someone's scored it with a knife (obviously they haven't; the paint is totally unblemished).
I'm letting the Dent Wizard guy look at it this Friday. Maybe I should take some before and after pics.....assuming he can fix it.

These type of things highlight the concept of doing a very thorough body inspection of the vehicle yourself when you pick up the car for the first time. I wouldn't trust anyone else to do it for me. Some dealers aren't as cooperative as others when you can't prove it was done on their watch.

There are MANY places on the mini that can't be repaired with PDR, because there are several areas that have metal behind them (attributing to the mini being such a solid car).
For example, much of the hood. Screw that up and get ready to drop $2500 on a new one.

Brad I have a dent similar to your photo, just slightly higher, level with the mirror. As confirmed by my body guy, mine can't really be repaired with PDR, because they can't get back there to push out. Last time I removed my door panel I had a look and sure enough there is a beam going right across. It hurts every time I look at it. :( Mine is further up on the curve and clearly caused by someone in a truck.

I insisted that the dealer didn't detail the car before I picked it up, so it was somewhat dirty from sitting on the lot. I'd checked all the panels a couple of weeks previous and didn't see any damage.

However, I spent 8 hours detailing the car and almost didn't see the damage myself on an immaculately clean car. To the touch, there's no perceptible ding, it's only when the light hits it a certain way and the ding is viewed from a very oblique angle that you can see it.

I'm also worried that there may be a support beam directly behind the ding ruling out PDR. I really don't want to let their paintshop loose on my car.

ive removed dents longer than 3" in the past...so yes, if there is room
inside the panel for the PDR tool to get into, it can be completely
removed.

i should get back to my PDR'ing soon... been too busy with work.

pristine.....

Well, the Dent Wizard guy worked his magic (gained access to the panel by removing the rear speaker) and you wouldn't know there was ever a ding there. The repair was perfect, and I mean perfect. I'm now a happy chappy

Glad to read there was a happy ending to your dent troubles. I've used the Dent Whiz a time or two & it's like magic.
