Below is the background info: It is related to what leads up to the question which is below the paragraph.
I noticed after the car sat a week that it has a slight musky smell. It is not a heavy hit like a OMG something is wet. It is just like ugh yucky. I just got the car a week prior and couldnt drive due to work from home job. Opened it up and was hit with that funky smell. Tried feeling around and I could not feel any dampness. Took to a car wash and sprayed top near sunroof and passenger felt around and nothing found. I do know I need to find the source of a possible leak. Noticed the antenna on the top of the roof needs to be glued down and sealed. Not sure if there is a pin hole on the roof or not for the antenna wires. Then the sun roof seal looks a tad odd at the seam where they come together. I tried spraying a super sudsy soap to see if the bubbles would either disappear or drain off in a particular direction. So for right now till I have it under a car cover to prevent any more moisture build up if it is a leak.
Also live in Louisiana where it is a humid area. Also I switched air vent to recirculate when I may have had it closed cabin air cooling the last time I used the AC.
What is the best way to get rid of the smells. - I did lysol the AC evaporator core (well I think I was near it. It was the vent under the hood near the windshield cowl. Then also sprayed Lysol in the vents directly.
Currently have at disposal: Ozium can spray (small little one) and Lysol. A future thread will be fragrance options but that is once we get the source of issue and then bad smell.
Have you changed the cabin air filter? My other car had a mouse nest in the cabin filter box, that made it smell pretty bad. Another easy action is to clean the carpet.
I found similar at local Home Depot ..... daughter had a bad smelling fridge' at new work place and put in a bag of this ..... problem gone in 24 hours ....
Well I checked the cabin filter. It wasn't bad. Though I noticed the left tail light has moisture. I have not cleaned the car in around two weeks. It has been under a water proof car cover. I doubt that is a source but just another thing to change. So the quest continues on locating the source.
Hi there. First post, yippie! Get ye over to yon hardware shoppe and buy a Nature’s Air Sponge Odor Absorber, then stick it under a seat. My Tesla Model S smelled like an old Holiday Inn where someone tried to cover up the smoke smell and that took care of it. Oh yeah it helped after a house fire too.
