Montana Boars hair brush safe?

Are natural boars hair brushes safe on the paint? I have read that if they are used properly that they will not scratch the paint. I have read that you need to soak the brush in water 20-30 minutes before using.

Never used one. Prefer microfiber mitts. But there have been many OCDetailers on this forum who like them. So yes... go for it.

Never used one on the car. If you're only using it on the paint/glass then it should be ok. I wouldn't use the same media for the wheels though. A separate brush for those would be a good idea.

I've used a boar's hair wash brush from Griot's Garage for more than ten years and I wouldn't go back to anything else. It's fast, gentle, and floats in my rinse bucket so dirt just drops away before putting it back into the wash bucket. As NJ Mini advised I use a separate little mitt on the wheels and lower valance.

Do you use it on an extension or by hand?

I use it by hand. I think the extension would be a little unwieldy for me, but you might find it's OK.

I used my new boars hair brush to wash the car. Its VERY effective at transfering lots of soapy water to the car. I really like it. It is more difficult to get off bug with it but in general its much nicer and faster than using a lambs wool mitt.

I can't imagine a more useful and effective washing tool other than the Microfiber Wash Mitt from Griot's. Been using it for 6 years, been through 5 or 6 of them and wouldn't even consider anything else.

But as I said upthread, I've talked to a lot of OCDetailers here on NAM over the years who love the boars hair brush.

I have those in my detail shop and to be honest... they work great at first. After a while though I think too much dirt gets stuck in them and starts scratchin. Because its boars hair you dont wanna blast them too hard with water because they do fall apart. Im with CR&PW&JB. The tenticle micros are awsome and they are only 7-10 bucks so you can replace them more often. Plus you can just throw them in the wash with your microfiber towels.
