From what I hear, road salt supplies are low, so they better use it only when they really need it.

typically they use waaaaay too much salt. they should only use when
necessary.

Where I'm from they use very little road salt, as the temps are usually to cold for it to work, so they just spread gravel. Your car does get dirty from it, but at least it's not caked with salt.

They use liquid chemical here... sodium chloride, I believe. I prefer that to salt or gravel. Makes a M E S S of your car (especially dark colors), but there's no permanent damage like pitted winshields, bumpers and bonnets.

Thanks Blimey...I've got a Bundle of Costco MF I can use!!

Well - bad news and good news...

Bad news: No Blimey today. Mechanic found another busted part, had to order. Should be good to go next Wednesday.

Good news: Got my replacement Accutire gauge today. They sent me a brand new one in the blister pack. Looks like they've redesigned or re-spec'd the hose assembly since my first one was made - this hose looks and feels better made, the clamp assembly is a little different, and the hose swivels easily at the gauge (my old one didn't). Gotta love great warranty service!

blimey-sounds good about the gauge. yah, i must have the new ones
then. its nice.

worked on my G today, swapped out the springs to Prokits. funny the
TEIN's were 658mm ride height from floor to top of fender arch, the
eibachs are 658mm ride height as well. well, the prokits will
settle another 10-15mm so it should be a nice tucked finish.
function wise the eibach has more front bias so easier to rotate the
rear. i might go back to the stock steering wheel as the input is a tad
too direct now.

the 18v milwaukee lamp came in handy... also had to flying-start
the xmas present from the wife cause i had to use the nice griot's
adjustable wrench she got me. thing is awesome. i put i back
in the box and back where it was 'hiding.'

Got my replacement tire from Tire Rack today, too. Just wish I had a car to put it on.

Bought myself a tablesaw today... tool retail therapy because I'm missing Blimey in a bad way... got it to work on my cabinetmaking project this weekend... modifying my 8-year-old built-in entertainment center to fit my newish TV - replaced my old Mitsu 65" CRT rear projector with a new Samsung 67" DLP... because it's table-top size, I can fill in the space where the bottom half of the Mitsu used to sit with more media drawers... TV's been sitting on concrete blocks (with a fabric cover) in my family room for the past couple of months... wife's ready for it to look nicer... so am I...

Lots of other honey-do's on my list this weekend... unreal how much stuff I can get done when I'm not farting around playing with the car all weekend... wife says she's gonna start hiding the car from me on the weekends so I get more done around the house...

If my S.O. told me that, I'd tell her I'll hide the TV from her so she has time to clean the house.

Then I'd make my way to the spare bedroom.

No home handy projects for me this weekend. Today off to the the in-laws for Turkey, then at 5:30 am, tomorrow, we fly to Calgary, via Houston for my son's wedding on Saturday, then we're going to head to Banff for a couple of days. Show off the Canadian Rockies to Lois

Hope everyone has a great weekend

motored my G this morning and went ahead and removed
the stabel airhorns and painted it matteblack.

i wasnt fond of the red housing peeking through the grill at
low lighting angles. now it looks factory finish.

also tried my other tools that i got this week. nice~!

next up is an cordless impact, i thinks.

I offered to detail my Dad's 31 Chevy 5 Window before he put it in a car show here in Denver this weekend. We spent all day last Sunday polishing with Swirl on a white pad, Amigo then Banana Gloss. Great hot rod, but tons of surface area that was very swirled - but not any more.

and the payoff -

and in the show

We'll see how he does this weekend.

anyone use these 2ton hydraulic spring compressors in their garage?

any good? each time i need to compress the strut, it reminds me
how time consuming it is and also how pita it is to hold the strut
straight while torquing down the top nut after putting on the new
springs.

with this little tool it can cure both headaches.... i think.

I used ratchet straps to compress my springs - easy, easy, easy. And free. And no extra tools that I rarely use...

Chuck - AWESOME ride... and great detailing job.

Yeah it was fun - for a near winter day. Spent 6 hours on Swirl, that got a little old. I didn't want too go to harsh because of the paint and I had to tape the pin striping but the black cherry sure was fun to put BG on. Really made it darker.

yah, and the curves im sure made it pretty challenging in some areas.
turned out real nice.

blimey- ive heard some folks use that for compressing springs.
but i kinda wanted something that can hold the strut upright while i
torque down the top nut making sure the mount orientation is correct
to the strut body. and was just wondering. for only $140 or so that
tool looks like it can do wat i want. but then that's $140, so not sure
if i want to spend the dinero elsewhere... like towards a impact gun.

after doing some suspension work on the G, the steering input was a tad
on the quick side so changed back to my stock steering wheel to see how
it goes. going for a test drive in 15...hope the early birds are back home
by now from shopping....
