What can I use to clean the lens on the Tach?

Will normal glass cleaner do? What product is best for this job?

Thanks

Good quesstion. I believe that it's plastic. Glass cleaner may be too harsh. You've asked in the right place. Someone will know here for sure. Now I'll sit abck & wait for the aswer too.

Meguiars Plastx, as glass cleaner is way too harsh and will discolor the plastic lens.

With Plastx, you will not even see the lens!

I wouldn't use Plastx for regular cleaning. Unless you are trying to remove minor scratches you may use Plastx as it contains diminishing abrasives for polishing.

Clarity doesnt contain alcohol or ammonia so it's safe to use on plastic. Don't forget to use quality MF cloth when using glass/plastic cleaners.

Prima Clarity is safe and effective on plastic, in addition to its typical use on glass. Not all other glass cleaners are necessarily safe on plastic. Clarity is a very unique style of glass cleaner in that its base chemicals are not the same as most other glass cleaners.

I agree. Use it only for correction and not routine maintenance.

Hmmm... I honestly can't think of anything available over the counter that I could be sure would be safe. There very well could be though- I just don't know for sure.

Anyone else know??

Agreed Heather. Since top-down driving brings out some unpleasant defractions with the minor scratches on the dash lenses, I do not rub Plastx in, just gently glide it on and then gently wipe it off w/ a MF after it dries.

Problem is that even with a new convertible only a few months old, the lenses already display annoying scratches (that I haven't even touched) which must be gently filled in & hidden. Is there another product that can do that?

Also thanks for processing my Hydro & Epic order so quickly... love the stuff!

Plexus Plastic Cleaner & Polish. The stuff is just amazing on clear plastic. You find your self reaching out and touching to make sure the plastic is still there!

i noticed on these plastic polishes that you have to use circular motion
to get the fine scratches out. on my CD where you're not suppose
to polish in a circular motion, rather straight motion from the center of
the disc out, i couldn't get the visual results i wanted....but my CD's
working pretty well now.

That's because CDs read circularly, and if you happen to get something in there to scratch it, you might wipe out a large amount of continuous data. A scratch going perpendicular to the data (from inside to edge) will only hurt a few bits, which can be corrected with error correction. None of this matters when polishing regular plastic.
Anyway Plexus is non-abrasive, more of a cleaner and slight filler.

I found myself doing that after using Clarity on my windshield!

Meguiars has a plastic polish/cleaner like Plastix that i've used on the headlight and taillight lenses with great results (even removes/fills large scratches with some elbow grease)

they have a second step polish which is significantly finer and works great on the tach and speedo lens without introducing NEW swirls and scratches. it makes the lenses sparkle like new.

they come in small bottles light grey and light blue if memory serves correctly.

I use Plexus. It was given to me by the installer of my invisible bra. He told me it's fantastic for all clear plastics. It's both a polish, sealer and protectant.

Which answers my question (via e-mail) about whether or not I can use it on my tinted windows.
