I just noticed that on the Detailer's Paradise website (www.detailersparadise.com), There are a lot of products where my review is either the only one, or it's one of only two or three. I'm starting to look like a shill for DP!

I know a lot of you are using/have used a lot of the products DP sells, even if you didn't buy it from them. So, please post some reviews (good or bad - they publish them all, as far as I can tell).

 

....and your point would be.... what, exactly?

Well, not *all* of my reviews have been five-star, but with some of their products (Monster Fluffies, Slick, Hydro), the stuff is so good that's it's hard not to gush!

I think I only gave their claybar three stars, and four for the Wheel Shield. I should really try the Wheels Shield on wheels that aren't subjected to the dusting from the stock MINI pads, but I noted that in my review.

 

wheel sheild works best with regular QD'ing with Slick.

 

I cannot write a review as I can not navigate the site. Sigh. I am pastel color-blind. I cannot read the menu on the left at DP's site. All I see on the left is a solid color block and an occasional smear of some other color.

I had to get my Wife to order the Clarity I ordered. It is why I ordered a gallon of it. I hate bugging my Wife with my problem. There is no way I could ask my Wife to write a review.

 

OK - I wrote a couple to keep you company.

 

Slick seems to take brake dust off just fine, whether or not I've got Wheel Shield on the wheel, so the Wheel Shield doesn't seem to add much benefit.

What I was really looking for was a wheel wax/treatment that would allow me to remove brake dust by simply applying wheel cleaner and hosing it off, without having to physically wipe down all the nooks and crannies of the wheel. Normally, any wheel cleaner that's truly spray-on/hose-off is too strong for regular use, but I was hoping that a good basecoat of Wheel Shield would turn my P21S or Griot's wheel cleaners into a no-touch cleaner.

 

I've written 2 I think, but will write some more when I get a free moment.

 

I can spray off 90% of my brake dust when washing then I just use a MF mitt to get the rest. I use Wheel Shield and do not use any wheel cleaner. I doubt that there is a wheel cleaner made that won't remove wax - synthetic or natural. So using wheel cleaner after waxing is rather a waste of time IMO. I've used Zaino Z-2, Epic and Wheel Shield and have found that the latter lasts the longest though all did a good job of preventing the dust from sticking. Between washings, I just use Slick on a cheap MF from Target and the dust easily wipes right off.
Someday I'm going to replace the stock brake pads and hopefully eliminate the majority of the problem. Damn brake dust!

oops ... back on topic - I've been meaning to go to the DP site to write some reviews, but just never have. I have posted some in the NAM Reviews section though. That should count for something.

 

I've said this countless times, Meguiar's Professional Wheel Brightener. It's diluted with water. Spray it on, hose it off 10 seconds later. 90 to 95% of the brake dust will wash out. If the wheels are super dirty, might have to actually take a towel to it and disturb it as you rinse. That's why I like those microfiber wash mitts that you stick your hand inside of--I use them for cleaning the wheels. Just wipe down the wheel, and spray with the hose.

Hey skuzz, you know there is a search bar on the top left of the page at DP. So you can just type in what you are looking for & *poof* it takes you there

 

I'll have to give the Meguiar's stuff a try. Of course, any hand-wiping kind of defeats the purpose for me, since the Web-Spokes have a lot of little cracks and crevices. I have one of the Griot's three-finger foam mitts that I use for the wheels, and one wipe with those takes off all of the brake dust, whether or not there's wax/sealant on the wheels, or whether or not I'm using wheel cleaner or just car wash soap/water.

Basically, I wash my wheels frequently enough that a gentle wipe with any kind of cleaning agent takes all of the dust off, so the only real improvement for me would be some kind of no-touch cleaner that gets 100% of the brake dust off without being too harsh on the wheels. I know, I know, I may as well wish for peace in the Middle East.

On the plus side, I've driven about 2,000 miles in the past week, almost all of it on the interstate, and judging from how clean my wheels have stayed, it really drives home the fact that virtually all of the crap that accumulates on my wheels between cleanings is brake dust. I think it's time to move away from the stock pads pretty soon.

 

You assume I know what I am looking for. Sometmes (most times actually) I just want to look around and check out things. I bookmarked the site the first day I was on NAM, but have only been there twice. Once to find out I cannot use it and the other when I told my Wife to get me the Clarity (sp? right name?).

It is more of an issue with frustration on my part. I was born with this stupid deficiency and have never dealt with it very well.

 

i dont usually wash my cars so that's why i mentioned Slick. i usually
only QD my MCS. my daily driver's wheels get washed with car shampoo
and boar's hair wheel brush (griots).

 

I say you may have to touch it because there is no one product that will work in every situation, because it depends so much on a number of variables. The way you describe your wheels, I think Wheel Brightener would be a spray on and rinse off deal. But someone else that has had brake dust bonded to their wheels because they've gone for years without cleaning them, will likely find they need several applications and still have some wiping to do. It would undoubtedly make the process easier, than without it, but it probably wouldn't be a "touch less" cleaning either.

Today I washed a one week old Porsche Cayman S, and I just used car wash soap and a soft brush to wash the wheels, then I came back and QD'd them after drying the car. But I must have spent 3 to 4 hours on this wash and wax. A good hour was spent drying it--blasting the crevices with air, opening doors, hatches, everywhere, and drying it, or blowing air. Then I Slicked the wheels to remove some residue from the dealership.

Wow! Thanks ScottRiqui for mentioning this. It really is an enhancement to our website when there are lots of reviews... an enhancement that only users can add!

As you have proven, reviews don't need to be all ratings of 5! We'd rather have lots of honest, thoughtful reviews of all ratings and comments then just 1 rating of 5. Although we do have to manually "approve" them before they go live, we approve them all. When "approving" we look for profanity or any other inappropriate submissions and that's all. We will always allow ratings of all kinds to be posted.
