Hello from Virginia Beach.

Most of you probably know that the world record for the most MINI/Minis in convoy, and verified by Guinness, was broken recently in Blackpool England. They had 269.

On JUNE 10th 2007 three MINI/Mini clubs will come together to attempt to break that record and bring it to the US. We invite all to attend and encourage those who cannot to find some MINI/Minis to attend in their stead.

Se7en Cities MINI, HR Club MINI and River City MINIs from Richmond will host this attempt. All proceeds from this event will go to the Families of Fallen Navy Seals. MC2 is getting behind this as is Corporate MINI. We need all owners to get the word out and spread the info.

Our Goal is 300+ MINI/Minis. The event will start at 3pm on Sunday the 10th of JUNE. We will Rally at the Virginia Beach Amphitheatre. The Local Police will block our route and the Seals will assist in getting participant info, VIN#s etc required by Guinness at the start point. A local Irish Pub, Conklins Irish Rover, Family owned (owner is a retired Force Master Chief) will host the after event festivities and Entertainment is scheduled.

Va Beach? That's close enough to be tempting....do you have any info on accomodations?

 

I PMed for more info. Sounds like a GREAT thing to do! I have a feeling we can find some DCMMers who wouldn't mind going down there! I am sure we can make an event to help out and go hang out with some of our neighbors!

 

Ok got some more info here. This is from the PM from Blue UK

There is no registration fee. We will raise money thru T-Shirt sales, Raffle Post Event and Sponsorship. Just show up. We will start from the Virginia Beach Amphitheatre at 3pm on June 10th and convoy for at least 2 miles, required by Guinness. All MINI/Minis must stay within a car length of each other and the stream be continuous. VIN#s must be recorded and verified prior to the Start so being there at 2pm is encouraged. Thanks for the help and lets hope we bring the record to the US and help the Seals at the same time.

All, I was talking to Simon about this event when I was down there, and it sounds like it's gonna be a whole lot of fun! Still not sure if I'm going to be able to attend, but I hope so! Plus, all proceeds go to a good cause.

Oh man, I might have to cancel my long-plannned trip to Wichita, Kansas to attend.

Being a retired military member and a person who has been dying to be in a Mile of MINIs, this one is hard to pass up.

 

This sounds awesome! We can set it in June... and it will only raise the challenge of doing it again at MOTD in 2008!

 

I want to go but would feel better if I could be in a caravan with someone else.. I hope the oldie will make it!!! Will start working on the cooling system hahaha

 

I'm going to do my best to get some fabulous group rates for hotels in the area. I'll post info as it becomes available.

I thought that tere were more than 300+ at MOTD last year. Why didn't it qualify?

 

Because it has to be a continous (no other cars) line. And you have to stay within one car length apart, which on the dragon would result in a whole bunch of accidents probably. And because they didnt have a Guiness Judge there.

It did not qualify because you have to go through Guinness Book, register the event, have a representative there documenting all of it. Plus, there are police involved to block traffic, etc.... I wish we could have attempted it this year at MOTD, but there just isn't enough time to get it official.
I am glad we are close enough to Va Beach that we can join with the Va clubs!

 

Ok. I put this up on the Calendar. I have a feeling that we can get a good group going down for this. And the fact that we don't have to be there till 2pm makes the 3 hr drive even better! I activated the RSVP just so we can see who wants to go!
I will remain in contact with their events coordinator and get more details, hotel info, easy fun routes there etc... This is so cool! I am so glad we are close by!

May I suggest finding someone you trust to drive the 2nd one? We're going to need every Mini we can muster, truly.

Sorry as much as I would like to break the record there is no way I can let someone else motor from DC to VA Beach with one of my Little Ones...
but we'll be coming w/ two MINIs already... and one will probably be GyPsy.

This is an awesome event! I will try to make it down for this one. I am supposed to be house sitting but I think the house will survive for a day without me!!!

 

That is the spirit everyone. I think we can do this and is for a great cause as well. I am all up for it.
