Here's some accomodation info:

First is one not everyone will know, there are beachfront cabins available on Ft Story! This is about a ten minute drive from the kickoff point or the resort area. I didn't realize this, one of our army vets told me. Rates start at $85 for a cabin with kitchen that can sleep six. Link http://www.eustis.army.mil/Fort_story/ then navigate to the rec pages. They also have the Cape Henry Inn, full service with rooms starting at $95. I'm quoting prices for summer season, they may let you pay spring rates.

There is also a Navy Lodge at Dam Neck. Rates in June are $77. This would be about two miles closer to the kickoff point and also beachfront. This is closer to the resort area than Ft Story but not within walking distance.

Best price I found for a resort area hotel is on hotels.com, Howard Johnson's Ocean Front Hotel for $150/night. Off beach hotel, best price was the Red Roof Inn, for $92/night.

BTW, all the above info is brought to you by Sherry aka AprilWhine. Sher I apologize for not giving props sooner...

JUNE 10th is SET

Some location info about the GWR run.
Need everyone there by 2pm for a 3pm start.

http://www.sevencitiesmini.com/phpBB....php?p=832#832

Folks from Richmond are familiar with Conklins. We've kinda adopted them or vice versa, not sure which.

Should have the T-Shirt Graphics available soon. Camo Shirts... Sweet.

Hotels?

Any suggestins for hotels or a B&B in VA beach. Chris and I will likely go out Saturday (or maybe Friday night) and then head home after the drive on Sunday... We've never been to that area, so might as well make a weekend out of it!

Any cause that supports those who have given the ultimate sacrifice is a good one. June 10 will be about when I intend to place my order. Rent a Mini?

I'm thinking about driving down from NYC for the attempt. Sounds like a lot of fun.

I'm a little nervous about the one car length between vehicles, though... A MINI is not a long car, and the thought of a 300-Mini pileup makes me a little quesy.

I doubt we will be moving at a blistering pace, at best, a parade pace.

MAN! My parents live in VA Beach so this would be easy for me to attend, but there's an autocross at Little Creek that same day! Why oh why couldn't it have been the 9th?!

I know autocross is important and fun, but may I ask this question...When will you ever get the chance at breaking a Guinness World Record?

I'll be autox'ing that morning as well as a few other HRMINI\Tidewater Sports Car Club Members. The way TSCC runs the events, if you run in the morning you'll be finished and off base by 12-1230. And the Record attempt registration is around 2pm.
If you want to autox, PM me and I'll see what can be done as the morning heats are sold out for the season already.

Gonna autox and help set a record!!

I am staying in Norfolk at the Freemason Inn. I am not sure they have rooms left, it is pretty small. I've stayed there twice before.

Good chance that I might be able to help breaking the Guiness record.

I will be there on Sat to cover Virginia state championships for baseball and soccers in Newport News area. I will spend Sat night there and join everyone on Sun at the event.

Have been holding out until my schedule for June was set, looks like I am in! May convince my daughter (bribe her with free gas) to bring hers too instead of being a passenger, we may need all the minis we can get! Hope to bring both!

Don't know why this pasted like that. Sorry. Basically the Hilton is just 3 miles from Conklins, its right off I264 and you can get to the Sports Plex easily from there.

Hey, neat! I was there for my 3 week training trip down to VA Beach. Nice hotel! Have to pay for breakfast though...

The location is fantastic too (well, for not being on the beach, anyways)! The VA Beach Town Center has a whole myriad of restaurants there. In fact, here's a link to the website for the town center.

And as a bonus, it's only about a mile drive from Checkered Flag MINI!

-Paul!
