The Defrost is designed to clear the screen as fast as possible, hence high heat, high speed etc. Look at is like a special mode to help you out by setting eevrything to maximum. If you want to control the airflow seperately, do not use that button !

As for the XM installation - you need the XM direct and Blitz-safe adapter, they install in the back where behind one of the access panels (right)

To expand on MaxN's comments, don't use the defrost button... but you CAN hit the button on the right hand side that will force airflow to the windscreen... then control the airflow yourself.

I hate this about my MINI too. If you hit the button and hold it for a few seconds, you will be able to turn down the air speed but still have defrost on. I will say, on very frosty mornings, I do leave it on the high-but-annoying setting because it does clear the windscreen very fast. Then I turn it down.

You know, people have said that, but it has never worked in my 05. I've tried it many a times too.

Believe it or not that's a trick that was removed in the '05s and newer, but actually does work in older MINIs.

you can get the XM Direct box from www.myradiostore.com - Ziggy is awesome to deal with - and you can listen to Opie and Anthony from 6 am until 11 am every day (the entire show). If you are in DC and want to see this set up - I'm more than happy to help you in getting the right pieces as well as installing it.

I guess this is another reason to keep my 03.
