Soulfire in distress

Stacey called me this morning to tell me that the headliner from driver to passenger from windshield to middle of sunroof is soaked! The passenger side pillar is dripping water, the rear view mirror and clock are also dripping water. To add to that, the boot selinoid is constantly popping the boot open, the boot wiper won't turn off, the doors lock and unlock, and the passenger window goes down slightly when the door is closed! We have been in rain before with no problems. Going to call the dealer.

Ick, that sucks. Sounds like a seal went bad or something.... And with all of the electrical oddness going on, a computer module likely got wet and will have to be replaced.

And now that I think about it, when a MINI leaks, isn't the passanger 'A' pillar a common starting point (or did you mean the 'B' pillar)? I'm bored out of my mind right now, so I'll see if I can find any info out.

Strangely enough, something similar happened to me this morning (though not as bad). You know how our windows roll down a short way when we open our doors, and then once they are closed they automatically roll up to form a tight seal?

I've noticed that every now and then mine don't do that (they never make it back "up") - but never before in the rain. So the edge of my driver's side seat was soaked this morning. At least I have my Wet Okole seat covers, but it wasn't much fun running back into the house to find a towel to put over the seat and the seat back. *sigh*

If the "A" pillar is the 1st, windshield, pillar, then it is that one.

Yep the "A" pillar is the first one. Easy way to tell...stand to the side of the car and look at it. from left to right. A pillar then B pillar. I was thinking about getting some Carbon fiber B pillars for a certain someone but I don't know how they would look on his car.

Yep, you got it right.

There's a drainage hole on the outside right above the pillar in the seal. It seems as if the hole gets clogged, or if the tube on the inside cracks/goes missing/comes loose, it ends up draining into the inside of the car. There's also drainage tubes in the 'gutter' of the sunroof which lead to the boot. You can see the holes if the sunroof was open and you were looking at it from the top. And actually, with what you described, it sounds more likely that these tubes are either clogged or came loose. The 'A' pillar drains, when it has issues from what I just read, tends to drain straight to the floor.

In any case, definitely something for the dealer to deal with. Although, in the meantime, you could check to see if there's something clogging one of the sunroof drains. EDIT: On second thought, don't. Or if you do, don't remove anything. All you would need is the dealership to say they don't see a problem, and/or you touched it, so therefore it's not a warranty issue... Unlikely, but I'm pessimistic like that

Poor Soulfire

So let me tell you, after the HELLLLISH night I had at work last night, I REALLY don't need to be awake at all still, but alas, I am. So, Soulfire is is DISTRESS! She is really hurting. We called the dealer, and they said to bring her in right away, and so out we went to the car, had a LOT of trouble even getting the doors to unlock! The computer is WAY messed up! We start the car and OOPS the windows and sunroof open up! We were able to shut the sunroof, but long story short(and about 20 feet of driving) and the windows won't go back up! OMG!!!!! So back we went, thankfully there is some trees next to our place where we parked it. so I get back on the phone with Tate, and we have to tow it in. I can't drive the car with the windows open in the rain! I just can't do it! So I called roadside assist, and of course, Sterling is the closest dealership...they want to take it there. Well, sorry to say guys, but I actually have better time with Tate then with Sterling! THANKFULLY again, Tate is JUST under the 50 miles from our house (42 I think) and they can tow it there! So now we are waiting for the tow truck, and our windows are STILL down! they won't go up at all!
Well, ok, so I have NO tarp, but I do have plastic dropcloths from painting! Sally, remember those lovely thick dropcloths I bought! Well, we cut one up and made some REALLY purdy redneck windows! Everyone is stopping and thinking that some DUMB kids broke our windows! Nice to know our neighbors care! Have gotten all the people in my building asking questions already!
So back to my sad story. I am awake and am SOOOO tired! It was a really crazy night, and of course with Soulfire out there hurting, I can't sleep! :impatient
So I guess we shall see Mark up at Tate....I have a feeling she is going to be there for a while....Hope they give me a loaner! I don't feel like driving a mouldy car.....................Here are some pictures of Jay's lovely redneck windows!

That sucks. But if it's just a loose drainage hose, it shouldn't take too long to fix, as long as they have all of the damaged parts in stock (ie, comuter components, I'd imagine headliner, etc,...).

Good luck getting Soulfire back ASAP!

That really sucks. I hope that Tate takes good care of Soulfire, although based upon Wagnbat's experiences, if you really wanted to avoid Sterling, I would have pushed for Towson instead... especially since they aren't backlogged.

Please keep us informed on how it's all going!

Soulfire needs a personal nurse to bring her back to health. She has a long hard recovery ahead sadly.

I had to do that when my drivers side window got bashed in a couple months ago, by some hoodlums looking for something to steal I presume. Had to drive 15 miles in solid rain. It wasn't fun... But with no top on our doors, you can't really tape it up and still operate the door.

We tried the other dealers and Tate was the only one that could get us in today. We will see what happens. BTW, we just got home from Tate. MiniNurse will explain

OMFNG!!!!!! I can't believe what a day we have had. NO I STILL haven't slept yet.Awake for over 24hrs now. We Just got back from TATE! And it is 4pm!
We had to disconnect the battery because all the electrical stuff started happening again, the hazards kept flashing, and I got rather nervous...So awaiting the truck for 2 1/2 hrs.
So the tow truck didn't get here till 12N. So, we had our redneck windows..But it was POURING, and of course they are floating somewhere on Great Seneca Highway! So long story short, for 45 miles of driving the truck at 75 mph, in the pouring rain, Soulfire traveled from Germantown to Annapolis. At least we didn't have the same driver as Wagnbat!!! She arrived unbumped! So when we got there, the SA we usually deal with was busy, and the other lady in there came outside and yelled at us because we pulled the truck up under the BMW parts overhang. I succeded to sternly remind her that there was NO way I was going to move that car unless it is going directly under a roof. Caroline heard the conversation and called over and had them clear a bay for SF. So we pushed it into the bay, and noticed since the windows were down the entire time, the seats and the carpet all the way to the boot were soaked! THANK GOSH for the warranty!
SO, we get checked in and leave and get caught in PARKED traffic. We got boxed in and could not get to the very next exit! We were stuck there for over an hour! We finally were able to exit, and I am so thankful that Jay grew up in Severna Park. He got us out. Of course we then had to go through SP and up 100 and back down to DC.
So, now back to getting home. Here is what happened. The back draining tubes for the sunroof were clogged, and overflowed the front ones, therefore flooding the ENTIRE headliner, which is going to be replaced, of course! I also want them to replace the carpet, and if they don't, boy am I going to complain!
So the SA told us that everything should be in by Saturday, and hopefully we can get her back by Monday. (crossing our fingers!)
So say a little prayer for Soulfire, and I am signing off and going to CRASH now.
