Several of the people who were instrumental in the founding of DCMM were involved in trying to get MINICCA off the ground.
In the end, the person who actually owns the rights (and website) for the MINICCA name decided to do their own thing, which went nowhere fast.
The MINICCA effort died just months after it started back in 2003.
At this point the various MINI organizations have all formed based on their own standards, and any sort of unifying national organization will have a major uphill battle to get formed and aligned.

There WAS a poll on the BMWCCA website a couple of months ago asking if some sort of organization dedicated to MINI's would be supported if organized under the BMWCCA banner.
The BMWCCA magazine "Roundel" has at least one feature per month about the MINI (there is a regular column).
I agree, this isn't going to happen anytime soon. BUT, it's not inconcievable that the MINI groups around the country start falling under the BMWCCA umbrella in the future. Our group already has many members that belong to both, even though they may not own a BMW per se. Autocross in particular is a BMWCCA event that many of us participate in.

Mike B nailed the story just about right. The MINICCA effort was a national effort. I know people from Chicago and other cities beside Washington were involved. Many of the people that tried to get MINICCA going will likely see the thread as they are long time members of NAM.
The BMWCCA members did not want MINIs in the club. BMWCCA in 2002 was about a brand of auto as opposed to a multinational corp. I’m sure many members of the BMWCCA thought why their club when there must be some kind of Mini organization MINI owners could join. I can respect that view, though I do not agree with it (they do allow a three wheeler that does not carry a BMW badge). At the time Mini owners were less than kind to MINI owners. The BMWCCA also did not want RR owners in the club. I'm not all together to sure the RR owners wanted in.
Another "Back in the Day" story.
When I first joined the DC area Healey club there was not a national Austin Healey club. The Austin Healey Club of America (AHCA) was formed by several local clubs getting together. Many of the local clubs had some history to them. Some local clubs never joined the AHCA.
I think the local MINI clubs will have to be much stronger before a national club can take hold. The DC club is doing well and so are some others. Making a national club happen is a lot of work. Things like rules and bylaws will have to be worked out so the charter of the national club would not get in the way of the local club’s. The kind of people that make these things happen some often have many other things on their plate. Finding leadership to run a national organization is going to be tough, even 4 years into our MINI motoring story.
It would of been nice if our community could have started out as a national club. The AHCA, in part, started so the national meets would not clash with one another. Seems even back then owners of Brit Cars liked to get together and swap stories. The AHCA would allow one of the regional clubs to sponsor a national event every year. Local clubs would still hold traditional events but only one would be "the National Event". The Dragon, MOT, Vegas and other events may provide the catalyst for a national club. Lets hope.

Believe me, back in 2002, many of us (including myself) were invited to form MINICCA, but due to a number of reasons, it did not happen. Has to do with ownership of the "MINICCA" name, from what I recall. It's a shame that a national club wasn't formed.
MINICCA can still be a National organization.
I had posted something over here about it.
The short of it is, there is already a good grassroots network of MINI clubs and owners. That is more than half the battle. BMW CCA can make things easier for the local clubs by collecting membership fees and distributing it back to the clubs. It does not need to be the same structure as BMW CCA. Currently BMW CCA membership is $40/year with $15 going back to the chapters. The $25/year goes to fund overhead and CCA programs, like Chapter Congress for all chapter officers.
If anyone wants to discuss it, please continue.
I have no vested interest, just offering to help BMW CCA and you.
