Karma comes 3's. WTH is 2's?

Well... It's happened again... Something terrible to one of my vehicles and my house. The last time was in Feb/March, when Chai total'd a Pontiac Grand Prix with our F150, followed 2 weeks later by our house being broken into. About 2 weeks ago, as most of you know from my 'the batmini is injured' thread, I got my car banged up a wee bit...

Well, today I come home to a broken into house. The first thing you see when you walk into my house, is a wall-unit full of DVDs. The first thing I noticed when I walked in was that half of my DVDs were gone because of the huge amount of white space, and that stuff was all over. Walking further in, I noticed it was cold, and looking into the kitchen, the sliding glass door (that we had just placed 3 months ago) was busted in with a brick. Weee. :(

Looks like they made off with 400-500 DVD's, my PS2 and all of my PS2 games, an Oakley Icon 2.0 packback (with which to haul stuff methinks), and security credentials for where I work. But the credentials are not really enough to do damage in the hands of idiot teenagers, which this seems to be. Also in the living room where the DVDs and PS2 were, was a PSP, this HP ZT3000 ($1800) laptop, a media PC, TiVo, a Sony DVD surround system, and my wife's new $1200 Maxxum 7D DSLR camera.

Not sure anything else is missing, that we are aware of yet. Nothing seems to be missing from our bedroom or office... Though there is evidence the hoodlums were in there.

It took 4+ months to get a contractor to come out and fix the back door last time. This is likely going to suck again, especially now with the weather getting colder. :(

So other than having intuders in our home, and a few DVDs and games stolen, not much harm was done except the glass sliding door. So I guess we're pretty well off, especially considering all the stuff that was in-sight and not taken. I guess it's time for ADT. :/

Damn, that sucks!!! Hopefully it was just some stupid teens with nothing better to do.

Think of it this way though, your luck has to turn around soon!

I hate to comment on this, but DVD's and PS2 games can be traded in piece-meal at local game stores, with less attention than a pawn shop. PSP uses a serial number for registration, and if yours is registered, can be tracked at game stores.

Surprised they didn't grab that, it's worth about one-third of your dvd stack in trade-in at a GameStop. Got friends at the local GameStop, and hang out a bit, and this is always a concern for them. No store wants to be a "fence".
They also know their regulars, that cycle through games quickly, and that helps.

If you can recall specific titles that are uncommon, and might help discern your collection from most trade-in stock, call me at 240-593-8353, and I will pass it on to the manager of at least one of these stores in the area.

Grrr. Makes me think of the teen ne'er-do-wells in my apartment complex.

- Z

P.S. Check PS2 box (old or slim-line?) for an external serial number, I'll pass that as well.

There's a special place in hell for people who pull crap like this. It's such a violation, I totally feel for ya Wagn.

Let's see - at least $8500 in DVDs, I'd guess over $1000 in PS2 stuff (depending on how many games you had), the PSP ($250), the laptop ($1800), the media PC ($1200?), the TiVo ($200), the Sony surround system ($500?) and the camera ($1200)

That totals almost $15,000 in stuff by the above estimates! OUCH! I sure hope that your homeowner's insurance covers ALL of it. Look at the bright side, you only need to re-buy the DVDs & games that you actually still want.

I have to ask though - other than a security system, what would you do differently? Is it time to relocate?

Not that it would help much, but it was time after the first breakin. That they didn't find an alarm was just an invitation back - especially if you tend to keep that much stuff lying around.

Well, the one of first guys (march 05) were caught, plead guilty, and is serving time. Police said the guy was from out of state. I suppose that means not local.

That would be different from this situation, where-as if they did come back with intent, they would have taken more than DVD's and PS2 stuff, imho.

And Edge, it seems to only be DVD's and PS2 stuff. All the other stuff was stuff that was out and available to ******, but was left behind for some reason... More reason to believe it was kids.

You need one of those.

By any chance did they also raid the fridge? We've had a group of breakins in the Montgomery Village area where they let themselves in through a rear door or window using a brick and then grab the kind of stuff they swiped from you. Their calling card though is that they always clean out the fridge as well.

Geez Will..what a bummer. Time for a dog, preferably large, vicious and with an appetite for trespassers.
Either that, or time to move to place that doesn't have plate glass doors...

Heh. I guess the 3rd struck today. Walking down some stairs at work as usual, when I get a sharp stabbing pain in my back.

We have a doc on site, and he says I 'jarred/pinched' a disc in my back, and perscribed 800mg Motrin and some muscle relaxers.

I guess I need to stop being so ebil now.

Hehehe, back is all healed, Mini is all fixed, and finally... FINALLY, today my home-owners insurance claim has been settled. Money is on the way, and I can finally get rid of my plywood door which has been keeping the house nice and cool all winter. >:/

After months of hounding my crappy claims agent (despite having 5-star interactions with USAA for every other matter), she said she would take a look at my paperwork today, and resolved it within a few hours. It took her a couple hours to get around to my stuff, process, and finish it... Either she has a hue queue of work sitting around, or... I'll not go there. There are many weeks where she's on vacation or out of town though... Meh. It's done. Now I just need to rebuy and get stuff fixed.

A sigh of relief finally.

let me know if you need to borrow coopy - he may not be very ferocious but he'll pester thieves with "throw my ball dammit.. throw my ball dammit! " that they'll just give up and leave!
