DCMM September events note
DCMM September events note
All,
In September, we are not going to be holding any driving events for the month due to the events in the gulf creating very unstable gas prices, and even a few local stations running dry (just yesterday, the Exxon around the corner from me ran out of regular and mid-grade)!
The DCMM board and myself agreed that it would be best to temporarily hold off on driving events.
However, assuming the gas situation stabilizes in the coming weeks (and it looks like it should (hopefully!)), we will resume normal club activities in October. I'm definitely planning a 'fall colors' tour in/around the Shenandoah and Blue Ridge mountains sometime in October, and we will hopefully put together a Scavenger Hunt rally before snow hits the ground!
This doesn't mean that nothing is going on this month, though! Expect some dinner and other 'meet-up' events posted in the near future!
-Paul!

But with the pipelines leading to our area so severely effected by the hurricane, we decided to wait until they are a bit more recovered before we do another drive. -Paul!
Edit: To clarify my (first post) gas price comment, I realize that the prices aren't likely to get cheaper, but I can drive down Rt. 1 in Alexandria right now, and the price of regular varies between $3.19 and $3.79! Once the gas pipelines are flowing a bit better (which is expected to happen the next few weeks), the whole situation should stabilize a bit, and all of the wild fluctuations in price (instead they'll be at a stable $3+
), stations running dry, and similar wackiness should calm down. Then we'll proceed to motor on!

We could be in Europe...
Where the gas prices are never lower than $5.00/gallon. We really have it lucky here, $3/gallon or not. My relatives in Italy think we are silly crying over $3.00/gallon!

Read this and then call your Senators and let them know how you feel and ask them pointedly what they intend to do about it.
switch to 89oct
I made the switch two weeks ago from "Premium" 93 octance, to "Plus" 89 octane... then reset my ECU (ODO-trick test# 21). I expect the OBC to relearn economy/power based on the lower-octane.
Seems to have worked!
My first tank lasted 405 miles / 12.2 gal = 33.2 mpg
Now on second fillup, @ 1/2 tank, Driven 240 miles | Range: 240 remaining!
So I'm saving ~$1.50/tank and getting the same (or better) fuel economy.
