A-Maze-ing MINI Halloween Event - October 30
A-Maze-ing MINI Halloween Event - October 30
Spend a haunted Saturday afternoon and evening with friends and MINIs. We'll visit two farms, have some food, enjoy a hayride, pick a pumpkin and run around corn mazes in the dark. We'll also enjoy a cruise through the haunted Maryland countryside after the sun goes down. This will be a family and kid friendly event!
When: Saturday, October 30
Where: We start at Summers Farm, 5614 Butterfly Lane, Frederick MD. Directions and more information on the farm on their web site www.summersfarm.com
After visiting, running their maze for prizes and eating, we'll start our night time cruise by heading over to Winterbrook Farm for the running of an even larger corn maze - in the dark!
Once we have run our little hearts out, we'll drive some more until we find the perfect "haunted" spot to stop and say goodnight.
Time: Meet at the farm between 3:00 pm and 4:00 pm. We leave for Winterbrook farm at dusk (between 5:30 pm and 6:00 pm)
Food: We have a reserved picnic area at Summer's Farm. BYO food and something to share. The farm has food available for purchase at their farm stand as well. Our next stop (Winterbrook Farm) will also have food and drinks available for purchase.
Funds: Event fee of $5.00 per car for non-DC Metro MINI members and $3 per car for members. Summer's Farm has an admission of $5.00 per person (less for kids and I am going to try to negotiate a group rate, so stay tuned.) Winterbrook Farm charges $6.00 for adults.
This will be the most fun you will have this fall for about 15 bucks!
What to Bring: FRS radios, channel 7/21
A flashlight!
Shoes you do not mind getting muddy
A picnic supper and something to share
Be prepared for night driving on haunted roads
Costumes!
Costumes are optional but encouraged (for you and the MINI if you like) Prizes will be awarded for costumes, so get creative
RSVP to events@dcmetrominis.org by October 22 please

Costumes?
So who is planning on going in costume? Step right up, you don't have to say what you're going to wear, just that your planning on doing it. If there are a lot of people going in costume, it might be encouragement for the undecided...
At this point Patricia and I are planning on costumes... who else?

My gal Amy and I will be there. I don't know about costumes as of yet.

Route finalization in progress
Went out yesterday - thanks Aaron, Melanie and Mike! - and firmed up (OK, created some of it from scratch!) the route for our drive on the 30th.
I will type up the route, test it again and then post it here prior to the 30th for people to print and bring.
The drive will take us between the two maze-running farms (which were PACKED yesterday and all seemed to be having a great time. The MINIs got lots of attention.) and through some great countryside (no street lights, some really neat little roads) A shorter ride after Winterbrook Farm will drop everyone off right near route 70 and route 40 to make your way home.

I hope this link works. Here is the location of Summer's Farm on a map of the area. The entrance to the parking lot is at the end of the road, on the right. The road literally ends about 10 feet from this point, so you can't go too far.
The parking lot is a hayfield! Be prepared for 1) dust 2) loose gravel 3) mud.
Please remember to bring a flashlight!

As of last night, I have 17 cars and about 21 people signed up. I know of four coming in costume and I encourage everyone else to come in costume if you want!
Forecast is for highs in the 70's, but possible scattered rain. I think we will be OK.
I drove the route again this weekend and changed the back half because I got lost (!!!) and found this really neat road that I just had to work in.
Remember to bring a flashlight and shoes you do not mind getting muddy. Also food for a picnic and some cash for entrance fees at the farm/event fees. Both places have little snack bars with some food for purchase as well.

As for my and Michael's costumes....I can't tell you....but might I suggest that there be a camera at the ready. You will not believe what we came up with. Pulled it all together last weekend and WOW....it is pretty amazing what we did. Outstanding....but that's all the hype we can give it.
Don't forget you costume-less types....there will be a super special prize for the best costume....SO.....dress up, dangit.
Hugs,
PB
