DIY or dealer install?

Hello,

Just purchased 2 badge mounts for my 2007 MCS with a mesh grill. The instructions say that the grill has to be removed in order to install them... is this a DYI project or am I better off having MoT mount them for me.

Cheers

I'm sure it can be diy'd. At least my grill surrounds were. I could help you possibly next week some time if you're interested.

I say have the dealer do it. That way it is covered under warranty. I did some stuff on my Ford truck and the dealer denied warranty cause they didn't install it.

I've looked at the instructions that came with the mounts but am afraid to remove the bottom chrome trim. I can't seem to see how to remove it safely.

What difference does cost of the holder make? Dealer will void other things just because they didn't install something. Why take the chance?

paranoid much? by law, they can't deny warranty for 'other things' unless they can prove cause. don't let a dealer scare you out of your hard-earned money.

What does law have to do with dealers? You might have the time to fight them. I would rather stay on the right side of things.

DIY install DOES NOT PUT YOU ON THE WRONG SIDE OF THINGS.

Like I said. I do not have the time and inclination to fight the dealer if they choose to deny an expensive repair because of a $20 part that I put in myself. I don't see why it is so hard to understand.

OK... to put this to rest, installed them myself... didn't have to remove the grill after all.... thank goodness for being able to loosen enough to reach behind.

For any future readers this helped me a ton since the badge instructions just say unclip taps reach behind and unclip other tabs. This pdf file makes life easy.
http://motoringfile.com/howto/R56_Grille_badge.pdf

Though, the badge I bought can't be installed flat against the grill the way described in the instructions with the longer screws. Plan to use some eye hooks and a handy dandy zip tie.
