Any leaks out there?

Wensleydale appears to have developed a leak somewhere around the boot lid. I noticed some water dripping down the rear window when the wiper would go by and it didn't get cleared off I then opened the boot at work to find my carpet soaked on the right side rear corner.

Strange that I wash her so often yet have never seen any water in there. I guess she'll be off to the dealer if it continues........quite a bit of rain overnight ! I'm hoping that I just didn't shut the lid hard enough.

Now I'm paranoid.

Gotta go run and check.

EDIT: Phew, no leaking.

I had this issue. I replaced my third brake light. The seal around it was dried up. I also up a little silcone somewhere but I forget where exactly now. This was in my '02 MC which I sold recently. To find my leak I just constantly ran the water from a hose across the top to see where water was coming in. Replacing the third brake light and little silcone (forget where...) fixed my issue. Hope this helps.

I don't have time to dig around, but there is a series of posts from JustJay and MININurse that have to deal with drains being plugged??? Or something along those lines. It brought water into their MINI as well...Hope this helps!

First place to check...... the third brake light. I'd suggest you to change the rubber seal right away.

Check with your dealer, it's covered under warranty.

Well, I went back out to Wensley after drying things up and sure enough she's leaking again. The third brake light might be the culprit because when I open the lid water runs out of the piece of interior trim near the light. In addition to the drops on the window, I have also found water coming in at two spots at the bottom of the lid viewed from inside the car (Seats down) and around the right upper interior trim panel.....that's the piece that goes between the right side rear window and the boot window

I've sent an email off to Dewayne, hope I can get her up there next week for this and a couple of minor issues.

I've got some good news but I'll post that elsewhere !

Don't forget to take the bonnet off and keep it at home before you go to the dealer this time.

Just kidding.

Jay,

Any thoughts why a gasket would go bad on a 1 year old car ? I hope that's all it turns out to be, tracing leaks can be as bad as electrical problems.

Not sure why it would go bad, but the tech @ MoT told me that they have had a few.

Thanks, I went out and looked and that gasket leaking would explain why I would see the leaks where they are, especially coming in from under the upper trim piece. Still working on getting a date set-up next week with MOT.

Mike, I forgot.... Look at your battery. I had water sitting in there almost to the top of the battery.

No water in the battery well, it was heading that way, the carpet in that area was soaked.

I washed her yesterday without any leaks, it must take an overwhelming pounding rain like we had to get it flowing !
