Krutted and Not in a Good Way

Went to MoS to order my JCW kit, and show the R56's to my friend Mike the accountant (the one that helped us with the 501c7 status). Ran into DCMM Member Mark Materella who was shopping.

Mike and I leave MoS, merge onto Rt. 28 (that sweeping on-ramp) and notice a silver Ferrari driving like an *** behind me, passes me on the apex, cuts me off. I avoid hitting him, but in doing so, fishtail, almost regain control, but unfortunately can't save it and the result is a 180 degree into the guardrail. I hit angled - head on, good news is the 50 mph of speed had scrubbed off by the skid and the impact was not too bad, but I managed to mangle the hood, bumper, driver's side front fender, and driver's side rear quarter panel.

Pics below:

Urrhh..!!!!

Sorry to hear about the accident. On the good side, no one got hurt. Hope, no serious damage and your R56 get well soon.

Yikes ! Sorry to read this !! But glad you weren't hurt (at least not badly, you'll be sore for a few days). Looks like pretty severe damage to the MINI.

Are you insured with State Farm ? I could end up working your claim.

Did you get a tag number from that car ? Any independent eye witnesses ? Might be hard to get an Uninsured Motorist claim if you have neither. How about police ? Did they make a report and if so, did they write about the other vehicle in the report ?

I didn't get the tag number of the car, the witness behind that stopped and helped did get a description of the car and the state it was tagged in. They are willing to help out. I did file a police report and I do have a report number. The officer did ask me a strange question on how many years I had been driving.

That IS a strange question from a police officer. I've never heard anyone say an officer asked that question at the scene of an accident.

Sounds like you have enough evidence for the UM claim.

Good luck and let me know if you need help or even just some advice.

call over to the Ferrari dealership. 100% chance the *** was coming from there. Do you know what model it was??

I pass people all the time on that onramp....it's two lanes, very long, and then you have a huge merge area. I don't pass on the shoulder though want I should pop a Ferrari owner in the mug for ya??

sucks man. my wife had a similar event in her '05 MCSC just past there...a crate flew off a truck into the air and landed on her roof. Luckily, MINI built it right and the roof structure took the brunt. The truck stopped when she did, but then took off when they realized she was ok and they'd be in a pile of poo for not securing their load.

Wow..... Glad you weren't hurt, Kurt! I hope your car gets on the fast track for repair. Maybe you can finagle the JCW goodies as part of the repair (at least the install costs...)

Thanks Peter - that would be my plan - my friend Mike is also a volunteer Fire Chief - he said he's amazed at how sturdy the car is. It could've been a lot worse.

Between this info and the fact he was at the dealership, it shouldn't be too hard to track Ferrari-dude down. With the info you have, there can't be more than a handful that match all of the variables.

I foresee a "leaving the scene of an accident" charge being filed by the police, in addition to whatever else that moron deserves.

Good luck resolving this. I'm devastated for you and your MINI.

the bigger issue is why you ordered the JCW from MoS. They take MSRP and add $$ on for their counter price. Unless of course you get the extra special discount for being the one, the only. Krut.

example - $2k installed for JCW brakes.

Kurt - that sucks! I really hope that the moron in the Ferrari (they come in all vehicle types!) gets what's coming to him. Please keep us posted on how this progresses.

Awww man, that sucks, I know that ramp too, folks seem to get quite aggressive knowing that you must merge over several times to get going south on 28.

The knucklehead in the Italian car probably thinks he's Michael Schumacher and this just a racing incident.....sigh.....hope they get him and justice prevails.

Mike

So I need recommendations for body shops - WagonWerks in Alexandria is my benchmark? Anyone else that has equivalent quality?

Ditto. He should be charged with reckless driving, speeding, leaving the scene of an accident, and being a jerk. Do they write tickets for that? Kurt, the important thing is that you are safe. MINI will be fixed up good as new in no time - an hopefully on HIS DIME!

Oh I am SO sorry to see this post.....Poor MINI but we're SO glad you are okay....

Ashburn Collision is very close to MOS - they do very good work. Scooter spent 3 weeks there when we got rear ended and he was good as new upon return....give them a try...
