Need help with Rear fog light

Happy new year to all, firts of all.

I bought the rear fog light and the switch panel.

I put them in, no big deal and what happens next......... nothing, the fog light doesn't work. All the rest of the switches work fine; windows, front fogs DSC.

So I think to my self, maybe I have to have the car in gear and the front ones have to be on, tried all the possible combinations................................ nothing

Can any body enlighten me, is it that I have to take it to MOS to have it programed or who knows what.

What am I missing.

Thanks for all the help I can get.

Perhaps you have to take it to the dealer and have them recode the central computer to recognize the fog light?

We've looked into having the rear fogs put in as well but we were told it'd be a LOT of money to do so.

Here's an exert from a seperate thread about this:

"The dealer will have to reprogram the ECU after they get installed. So even if you do the install yourself, you'll still need to take it in to the dealer for the programming."

If you have this done, can you post or PM me to let me know how much it cost? That missing toggle switch is driving me insane!!!

The dealer charged me $50 each to reprogram the computer to turn on the rear fog light in my car and my wifes car after I did the real work. At least I saved the cost of the installation.

Take a look at my gallery to see how I fixed the missing toggle switch. I took the the original switch bank apart and took the needed parts out of it and then drilled out the offending blank in the new switch bank and inserted the parts.

The two of you are referring to rear fogs for an R56.

ezuloaga, for an R53 you need the dealer programming after installing the toggle panel and lamp. It only takes 5 minutes but dealers will charge an arbitrary amount. I was lucky and my dealer did it for free while my car was in for maintenance, but I've heard of dealers charging a half hour or even as much as an hour of labor.

OK, so they charged me $ 66.00 for the "activation" 1/2 hours labor. They where nice enough to do it straight away, I waited another 1/2 hr for it to get hand washed, nice, very nice. When I pulled out, I realized the "check engine soon" light was on

U turned and told Katherine what had happened. She called the tech and told him. She said that he would check it straight away. I said maybe he did something when he plugged the computer, and she said, no he didn't plug it to the main , so I guess that there must be a switch or something that they move that makes them work.

Any way, it looks great.
