Event ideas for 2008!

Since JustJay brought the 2007 events thread back up, why not start a new one for 2008?

We should get some ideas together and start a poll !

Leona and I will handle a few Burtonsville runs - working on some new routes, I "re-found" a road that is a must add on !

So far:

Annual events:
  • MINIs By the Bay
  • Backroads and Battlefields
  • 4th of July parades
  • mmatarella cook-out
Suggested:
  • A drive-in movie idea
  • more events for the VA members
  • more participation from other clubs (hint hint Maxi )
  • Perhaps a Halloween Run up to Philly that I tried to get interest in
  • Winter events that don't deal with MINIs because of the weather
  • Perhaps a Pumpkin picking run
  • Over night runs?
I'm still working on the PA run to the train ride, what do you guys think about a picnic. The train's destination is a picnic ground that we can hang at until the next train comes back.

Hey, those are my ideas!

A picnic is always a good idea. Have a plan B for weather though.

Thank you, Mike, for starting this wonderful thread.

For all, please bookmark and check our DCMM Event Calendar often. We are trying to keep them updated as much and as accurate as we can.

The infomation on calendar will include: Date & Time of events, detail location of the events, maps (if any), routing (if provided), related important links including the link back to the related thread, name of the event organizer, etc.

In the near future, with the new DCMM monthly newsletters coming up (hopefully soon, we're working on it ), we will try to include all of the events details into the newsletter as well.

Is there a good Dairy Queen or similar Ice Cream joint that could handle a Friday / Saturday night Ice Cream run / impromptu car show come summer time ?

I'm hoping there are a few favorites that we could rotate around so MD, DC and VA members all get a chance.

Back in our younger days, Leona and I (we've been together over 23 years) used to go cruise the Cougar to the DQ in Odenton, pop the hood, bench race, and enjoy huge blueberry blizzards ! This was the hottest cruise-in place in the Laurel, Columbia, Silver Spring area. As far as I know, the cruising there stopped, if they're even in business anymore.

Those were nice summer evenings I'll dig around and see if I can find any pics.

Moorenko's is my fav for ice cream in the area.

Their ice cream sandwiches are great. There's one in Mclean and another in Silver Spring. (They used to have a MINI too)

As far as having a car show in their tiny lot in Mclean, probably not.

Wow,.... over 23 years.

In Oct, we went to Dairy Godmother's frozen custard in near old town Alexandria, Va. It was a good turn out. We had a good time.
They might not have an ideal parking for all of our MINI for a mini car show though.

The other is Rita's Iced Custard. Their products are good. There are quite a few of them around the area, some of them has hugh parking lot (like the one in Aspen hill, Md.

There is a place we all went to out in the Manassas area near a drive in. Does anyone remember the name? It was an ice cream and drive in event.

Hi Jen,

Some members have asked about your Spring Fling run back in 2005, they are wondering if there is any possibility to have you organize the event again this year?

https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...t=spring+fling

I think It will be a good Spring's openning season event.

I've been trying to get my brother to ride along on a run, might even let him drive if the run is done as the link indicates that woud be perfect ! He lives right there in as*burn, I mean Ashburn

He needs a fun run break, too much stress at work and daddy duties

Cheers,

Mike

For high power lovers

This should be interesting as well. another MINI tuner is coming our way (not exactly, but not very far though ). This will sure be a fun event to participate or even to be there as an observer.

Jan at Helix in Jan

More info TBA.

My brother and I were treated quite badly there by the owner (we went quite regularly and spent $$$$$ - not hard to do at $25 per 10min) several years back - still have a bad taste in my mouth after that one

I even attempted to resolve the issue via emails following the incident to no avail.....

I'll have to think about joining in on that one I guess It was quite fun to work on the times.

Yes! Most definitely should repeat the Spring Fling. That's the first event I ever went on before I even had my MINI - and it was very fun. Hence, I bought a MINI, joined DCMM, NAM... did mods, can't stop talking about all things MINI.... get the picture?

and last, but not least... two words "Lime Kiln"

I would love to open the Spring Season with an event, but I cannot committ to anything in 2008 at this point. I have in procurement on four projects with two more coming, and as soon as construction starts I will have no control over my schedule. I do not want to committ to being somewhere and have to back out.....

If there is enough interest for a run in late March or April (before MOTD) I
have been working on a 80 - 90 mile run around the Hagerstown area. It
would include southern Pa. by the Whitetail Ski Resort working around north
of Hagerstown up to High Rock on South Mountain(you really need to see it
on a clear day!) and ending up at the Cozy Resturant in Thurmont. There
are some super roads up this way.

I'd like more saturday evening/sunday events (I may be the only one though).

I'm currently working on a quick (~1hr) run in the Davidsonville/Crofton area that should be ready soon.

I just got back from doing some preliminary work for another run also.
Same type of roads as before but only a couple have been used again, although the covered bridge is included again.
This one is intended to be run on a Sunday; the finish is at a country club that has an awesome Sunday brunch.
It starts at Hunt Valley Mall and includes incredible scenery, even if we don't have fall foliage anymore. Lots of beautiful homes and horse farms. Lots of streams too.
Time and distance is roughly 2 hours and 65 miles.

Since Jen might be very busy, I'm pretty sure that you can lead the run.

Other than the breakfast meet on 15th and St Paddy's run on 16th. We are pretty much open for the month of March. Please send me the tentative date, I will pin it on the calendar.

As long as this is a Sunday run I can promise I'll be there! Saturdays, I'll do my darndest to attend.

You may not have noticed, but I have a thing for curves and hills.

you know me...I'll go on a lot of these, but how about non-driving, unofficialbutstillontheclendar events during this winter.

Bowling, anyone? We had so much fun, last time....

i think there should be a winter drive... we can call it MINIs on Ice or the Icecapades, MINI edition.
: )
just leave lots of space between you and the MINIs around you as you start your turn ins... ; )
