OMG My MINI just failed the VA safety inspection because

1 of those 16 little LED break lights isn't working.

Now I got like a week (so the guy at the gas station says) to get it fixed or they have to recharge me the full inspection price.

VA is BS with these inspections and I don't know how Mini of Sterling missed that issue on my 25k service check up.

I had to replace mine outside of warranty on my '04. The weather seal went bad, and water and dirt corroded the circuit board. $80 for the part alone!!!

Replaced it myself though.

I have one here as a spare, if you need one but don't know if you'll get it there in time before your week is up, your welcome to get mine. Or overnight it or something. (I'm not sure how much it costed me...)

I never thought I would ever say this - but if you lived here in California and saw all the POS cars on the road because WE HAVE NO INSPECTIONS except for Smog - you might think different - LOL!!

When we lived back there in VA - I used to complain too...but seeing all the crapola on the roads here, I sort of appreciate the inspection process a little more. But I'm sorry the dealer didn't catch it at your last service..boooo.

where did you go for inspection? so that I know not to go there..
I've been to places where "inspector" would just look around the car and replaced the safety inspection sticker.

mine was failed for wiper blades. the rear one was ripped 1/4" (only one year and 10k miles on the car). I'm convinced the shop did it so they could replace and charge $$ (my wife took it in and had them replace it and the fronts too). they did the same to our FX, saying a tailight bulb was out ($10 more to them). conspiracy!!!

Jermantown Shell station off Lee Highway in Fairfax. Same place where some tech was walking around smoking a Cigarette near the pumps.

I have used the Jermantown Shell for every single one of my cars and not had a problem. They even passed me with the blue LEDs in my turn signal. You should have Mini of Sterling reinspect it for you. Save you the hassle of going back.

In Virginia (and I guess any state with an inspection program), it's all about where you go. I have an old pickup truck that had a leaking heater core. No problem - I just bypassed the core, since I don't need the heater.

The next time I go to get it inspected, it fails inspection because of the bypassed heater core! Turns out, one of the items on the Virginia inspection checklist says that the windshield defroster vents have to blow hot air (which obviously won't happen if the heater doesn't work).

So I had to buy a new heater core for a 25-year old truck that I drive maybe 100 miles a year. Luckily, I was able to install it myself, because the labor charge would have been huge compared to the actual cost of the core itself.

The place I go to now checks that the horn and lights work, and that's it. When I take my motorcycles in, they don't even check that - they basically just fill out the decal and hand it to me.

But they must take it to somewhere.
When I dropped off my car for service last year, they did replace the safety inspection sticker for me.

interesting. I asked about our Cabrio and the SA told me to take it somewhere else. It's been 2yrs since then...never thought to go back since they didn't want to deal with it. Odd not to offer that in-house, since they must inspect cars to deliver them to new customers
