How long did your front brake pads last?
How long did your front brake pads last?
So, I'm at 20,000 kms (12,500 miles), and my service light for my front brake pads went off. It said I have 1,000 kms left.
Seems really early to me (city driving mainly). How long are other people's front brakes lasting?

I am reaching 15,000 at my 2 year anniv (in May) and I am hearing some really loud grinding from the rear.. not screeching, but that irritating grinding noise. Even my last back seat passenger asked me if I was aware of how loud it was :(
I think I need to have the car in to the dealer but I am dreading this because each time I have had my car in for anything, they took the car and I ended up in a loaner for weeks at a time. :( Not to mention that I have no idea if this will be something covered. I am afraid if I don't get it in, though, whatever it is will end up doing damage.. maybe rotor or caliper damage.
Has anyone been hearing that kind of sound at early miles? Is there any specific lingo I should use with the dealership to keep them from screwing around with me? I know that when I came to them about my stumbling, having been in this forum gave me some very specific terms to use with them and made them take me more seriously. They tried to send me packing without addressing the stumbling, but persistence and the right language got my software upgraded. Although they had my car almost a month, in the process.
At any rate, is there anyone who can weigh in on if this is a simple pad issue and what I should say to make the dealer fix this without trying to screw with me?
Thanks.
