Can you put an "S" exhaust on a non "S" car?

Has anyone put a "S" exhaust system on a non "S" car? I realize that you would have to replace the rear black trim. But would you have to replace the bumper cover too? What other parts would have to get replaced (if any)?

I ask, only because I see so many choices in exhausts for the "S" car, but very limited for the non "S".

The spare tire & battery box would be in the way. But the thing about the S exhaust is that the better aftermarket systems - Alta, Quicksilver, and Dinan - have the single-box design of the Cooper.

If you like dual exhausts there is one from Remus with dual tips. You can go check out sound clips and pictures at my site. http://xp.solidhelium.com

As for the S exhaust on a Cooper, its been done before and it would work, since the Cooper doesn't have a battery box in the way. You'll have to lose the spare tire of course (if you had one). Do a search at mini2.com forums, I'm sure you can find some info there.

I added an "s" exhaust to my Cooper, it is a custom fab job but so far I don't like the tight bends that we had to add for a center exit.

I thought about trying the Alta for the one side with the center outlet...anyone?

BTW: I have S bumpers on my Cooper so the exhaust is to go out the center.

Denispetit,
Why not just go to a good muffer shop that does performance work for Hotrods and racers. I had mine custom fab'ed for $350. Check my gallery for photos.

a very easy job to do as i know afew people who have done this..

you will need an extra hanging mount for the other side of the zorst..

other than that its just the matter of unbolting and then bolting the S zorst in place...

1hr max...

Spare tire, yes. Battery box, no - that's under the hood.

You could, but by the time you deal with the fitment issues, I think you'll spend as much or more than you would for a really good system specifically made for the Cooper - from Borla to MyMini (see touring exhaust thread) to Milltek, there are some very nice pieces made for our cars, which have the addt'l advantage of losing about 10 to 15 lbs. of weight (always a good thing with Coopers)

hamman centre twin tip

Hamman does have a conversion with a centre twin tip. It may be a bit on the expensive side. Your other alternative is to have it done by your local performance shop.

Breathing life back into this thread. I have a R52 Cooper S JCW. I'm a little off track on the forums here but what I'm wanting to do would be something that a Non S would want to do.

I want to relocate my exhaust from the center and take the dual exhausts one to the right and one to the left. I'm looking for the black plastic spoiler center trim for the rear stock bumper to make that happen. I saw the photo of the Chili Red with the dual exhaust and that is exactly what I'm looking for.

Reason for the switch I'm considering pulling a trailer and don't want the exhaust heat on my trailer hitch or propane tank.

If you know of a place for the trim piece please let me know. To me that will be the hardest, the rest is just getting it to a muffle shop that can move things around and deal with heat shielding.

I apologize in advance if this is an uneducated response. With your desire to move your center exhaust to the left and right sides, you'll already be needing to do some custom work. Could you take the rear bumper from something like a newer Paceman and modify the mounts so that it connects to your frame? Not sure if the dimensions would be off and just end up looking weird but it was the first thought I had as a possible solution.
