Why is my Brake Warning Light On?

Hello,

I need some help. I have a 2004 MC. The Brake Warning Light is on. However, I pulled the wheels and looked at my pads (see pictures). I DID NOT pull the calipers and take the pads out. It looks like I have plenty of pad remaining and the wear sensor is not close to the rotor. Any ideas on why the light is coming on?

ZippyNH, thanks for the quick reply. I forgot to include that information in my original post. That is the first thing I did.

MikesGreenMINI, Really? I noticed last night that one of my fog lamps isn't working. I'll look into it. Thanks for the reply. I'll let you know.

On a gen1, nope.
The warning light is just a loop of wire, and a level sensor for fluid.... Just like most any car with the sensors added....nothing fancy.
The sensors have plugs...might be loose Or unplugged.....
Or a more run of the mill issue...brakes feel OK? Pulsating? Full grip?
E-brake handle all the way down?

MikesGreenMINI - That wasn't it. But at least you made me change my burned-out parking light. Thanks.

I pulled the sensors. Both of them have the copper-looking insert still in them. I cleaned them both and reinserted. Light still on.

My daughter drives the car daily. However, I drove it prior to beginning this project and the brakes seemed normal. E-brake is all the way down.

When you say, "They have plugs", I assume you mean the way they plug into the slot close to the rotor, correct? Or could I be missing something on the opposite end?

Also, does it make a difference if I reinsert the sensors but don't drive it? I reinserted but the car is still up on the jack stands. I'm not sure if it makes a difference. Thanks.

The sensors are replaceable.... Heck on a gen1 car, I think many folks bypass them by just twisting the wires together... There is a plug where the replaceable part of the sensor connects...think it is blue, in the wheel well, usually hidden behind the fender liner around the springs/struts.

Thanks for the help. I think it's the connection. I got the light to go off for a few miles. Hit a bump and the light came back on. More importantly, my brakes are fine. Thanks for the advice. I'll keep messing with it and possibly replace the sensors. I'll let you know how it goes. I appreciate the advice. Thank you.

You probably have a break in the wire somewhere. Check the connectors and look for any rub marks on the sensor wire covering.
For testing the sensor, you can disconnect the sensor at the connector, and use a wire to connect the two wires at the connector (on the chassis side not the sensor side of the connector). If the light goes out than there is a break in the sensor wire someplace or the connection is poor at the connector.
