K&N typhoon vs DDM works
I just need need a little input before I order.
Everyone I talk to in my city says go with the K&N over a foam filter, but nobody I talk to drives a mini so I figure id ask on NAM as well.
thanks

Check out the thread "Power mods on the Justa's". I went with DDMWorks on mine and LOVE it, but I really have nothing to compare it to. I ,too like the growl she has now, and have noticed that slight lag in throttle response is GONE!
I did the K&N Typhoon. I'm also running a K&N on my truck. I bought an extra filter for the truck since it's a diesel and it gets really dirty. I change filters and allow the dirty one time to soak and dry out before I reinstall.
It's a nice effect on my 2002 R53.

+1 for K&N. I have used them for every vehicle Ive owned (usually drop-ins) for about the last 15yrs and never any problem, ever. The Typhoon is well engineered, easy to install and million mile warranty. And no, I dont work for them.

There are like 3001 other threads about this. However, I have the DDM Works intake and I would say its the best design out there. I also replaced the foam filter with a K&N filter. Part# RB-0720 if anybody is interested.
for an R50 Cooper non S the WAY/DDM Intake is by far the best.
Please pay attention as most the people that have responded to this thread don't have an R50

Also, I like the afe intake way has for sale. Look into the afe intake also.
Well I don't think the K&N is really better or worse than the foam. From the tests I've seen, they both flow and filter very similarly. I don't see how the maintenance is easier either. Both are washed with water and cleaner, and then reoiled. Only reason I switched to the K&N was I ran out of foam cleaner/oil and had a couple boxes of the K&N stuff in the garage. The car feels exactly the same.
I am running the K&N Typhoon and it totally turns heads from the throaty growl it lets off...not a huge gain in horsepower, but the rumble is totally worth it, even at idle. Very easy maintenance too...totally worth the money. Run the DDM for a while and then switch it up!
P.S. MAKE SURE YOU DO NOT OVER-OIL THIS FILTER!!! IT NEEDS ALMOST LITTLE TO NO OIL!!

JCW sound kit intake. It's authoritative at full chat, but in normal driving you don't sound like a Prelude on quaaludes.
I know I must be the opposite of everyone else, but I think cars feel faster when it doesn't sound like you are taxing them.

No need to. Intakes do not void the warranty of the vehicle. Even KN Filters has a pamphlet that comes In the box that gives you a number to call if the service advisor gives you some trouble. They will talk to the advisor and straighten the issue out.
On another mental note, this is not legal advice but from what I have been reading, as long as the aftermarket product has been tested and reviewed, even if the part has been claimed as source of the problem the warranty can't be voided. In my case, because I live in Cali, as long as its carb approved and tested I should be able to install what I want. Jet performance products has a primer on this that looks promising.
Again not legal advice, but important to know regardless...

Anyone manage to install the DDMWorks R55/56/57 Cooper (Non S) Intake and JCW strut bar without any issue?
I intend to order DDMWorks but I got mix answers as some supplier mention the JCW strut bar will obstruct it and some doesn't.

Wrong forum. Post in the r56 forum for a better response.
the ddm cai brings really improves the sound of the car. After installing mine, my friends constantly comment on how impressive the car sounds inside and outside the cabin. The only time I actually notice the performance improvements of the intake is probably during acceleration after 3500rpm. Regardless of which cai you decide to install, I guarantee that you will love the improvement the intake makes during your everyday motoring experiences.
I am running the Typhoon on my 2009 MCS (manual transmission) and love it. I went with the Typhoon over some of the others because of price, looks, and 50 state emissions legal on my year. The one thing that I ended up doing was taking out the K&N RU-4960 that comes with the Typhoon setup and put the AEM Dryflow 21-202DK in its place. This means that there is no oil on the filter to potentially cause issues with the sensors. The two are a direct match and K&N makes AEM's filters (the metal clip holding the filter together even has K&N's name). I then run an Outerwears Pre-Filter for the RU-4960 on the setup. I prefer the sound of the AEM over the K&N. I do get 2 mpg more with the AEM over the K&N. In the 1/4 mile, the time and mph are the same for either filter. I notice a performance difference over the stock setup after about 3200 rpms.
