Whats the most miles anyone here has covered in a Mini in a short time span?
In 1999 I covered 2,000 miles in 14 days in a 1981 BRG 998cc Mini, I drove it all over the English country side from Manchester to Southampton and everywhere in between (and back).
Took the same Mini on the Silverstone circuit for the Mini's 40th Anniversary cavalcade, was one of the best experiences I've had, ever.
Adventure included breaking down on a bridge on the motorway in the pouring rain. (Water got into the distributor). But I fixed it with some RC40 and a plastic bag and was off before the cops got there.
Had some other adventures in the Mini which I wont say here.
.
Oh, and Mini camping in a UK summer is the sheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeet.

October '04. Just bought the MCc. Had a trip scheduled the next weekend. Was planning on using my other car, but it got dinged and had to go to the shop. Took the Mini instead. When I got to my destination, we only stayed for about an hour. Spend the rest of the weekend driving around San Francisco, Oakland and Sacramento area. 4 days. 1900 miles. A smile that is still on my face.
P.S. I once drove cross country from Savanah, GA to Los Angeles, CA. By myself. 36 hours. 2500+ miles. '91 Honda Prelude. Does that count?

When I left L.A. on my roadtrip last Thursday, 4/7, Wanda showed 40,701 on her odo. As of yesterday evening, she has 43,048, the bulk of which was driven between Saturday 4/9 and Sunday 4/10, in a kamikaze run from Bullhead City, AZ to Albuquerque, NM to Birmingham, AL! Hee hee! Yesterday's little jaunt to the Florida Panhandle was a walk in the park!

So what if I've only slept 15 hours in 4 days...LOL...delirium is fun! Muwahahahahahaha!

I bought my '79 last fall. I flew from Akron/Canton, Ohio to Altanta, Georgia. Met the individual selling the car at the airport - had the Mini on a trailer. After checking over the car I loaded the boot with one gallon jug of antifreeze/water and a quart of oil and hit the open road. After the first 100 - 150 miles I stopped to check over the car and found my oil level had dropped to low and there was oil dripping off the tranny. Topped it up, bought another insurance quart or two and headed out again. Another 100 - 150 miles another oil check and top off. This continued for 800 miles and a few quarts of oil all the way back to Ohio!!!
As a reached Ohio I met at a gas station the President of an Ohio Mini Owners Club who had stopped to see a Mini he did not recognize. I told him my story and he asked me if I was nuts - especially since I was not familiar with the car and I had no tools
Pulled the engine after I had been home a week and changed a few gaskets with the help of a local Mini guru. Also found a loose speedo cable in the process.
Thats the story! First Classic Mini, a few quarts of oil, a lot of luck (in the minds of some), no tools and 800 miles of highway at 60-65 mph with no radio!
Got a lot of stays, traded numerous stories along the way. The car is orange with a white checkered roof. The Hooters girls in Knoxville loved the car - it was either a Hooters orange thing or the fact that the roof looks like the endzone at Neyland Stadium (sp?) - Home of the Vols!
BTW the car only had 29,000 original miles when I got it so I felt reasonably confident given that I also had a current MOT and all the MOT records for the last 8 years or so....
A classic Mini can sometimes be reliable

I now know way too much to try something like that...
Left St. Louis on a Friday night at 5 after work, was in Birmingham, AL by midnight (550mi.). Next morning, 9AM to Atlanta, 1hr. in Atlanta and back to Birmingham (350mi.). Poker game that evening, left at 9:00AM on Sunday, was back in St. Louis before 4:30PM. Total was a shade under 1600 mi. in under 48 hours. And with a German Shepherd as co-pilot.
