How do I adjust my red koni dampers?

Can anyone point me to a tech article on how to adjust the damping on my red koni dampers? Or maybe a short explanation on how to adjust them. They came on my car so I don't have any paperwork.

From what I can tell, you have to spin the top part, but I don't know if they need to be fully compressed or extended while adjusting, and whether I turn CW or CCW for stiffening up the rate.

Also found this, although it might be hard to understand without text.

Pflashinaz --

I found this article regarding setting compression and rebound damping on koni shocks. What I can't figure out is whether the red koni shocks have compression adjustment. The article you reference above only discusses rebound damping adjustment.

Do you know if the red koni shocks support compression damping?

As far as I know there is no adjustment for compression damping. I believe that would need to be addressed with specific valving.

I'll vote YES to that comment!

sure glad I have SPAX .... they may not be the best but the adjustment is SURE easy. Just turn the screw - 14 clicks end to end....

Interesting comment about the Spax. They seem to not be very popular here in the states, but over in the UK they seem popular. Probably due to the fact that no one on this side of the pond will work on them.

Also, Spax seems to have a problem with quality control. As one supplier over here told me, "... you never know what you'll find when you open the box, some are already leaking, they are junk".

I have Spax on my New MINI and I'm not a big fan of them! They will be replaced soon with Koni. One of the reasons is the adjustment. 28 way adjusting, but they say only adjust them 4 clicks at a time. Well, that makes them 7 way adjustable. The other reason is they leak! Rubbish!

I have Koni on my Classic Mini and have always like the way they set, not complicated to adjust and work great!

Yeah, up until last weekend I had to remove the fuel tank to adjust my left rear Koni. I cut a 3" round hole in the rear seat back so that I can remove access the shock mounting nuts without having to remove the fuel tank. What a PITA that job is .... get's old _really_ fast.

hmmm .... interesting fix to this PIA. 3" gives your enough? A very short throw ratchet??? You get your hand thru to work the 'nuts'?

Inquiring minds want to know ... pictures? As long as you have a set of back seat cushions this would be darn near invisible.

Can you tell me, even tho I have those totally worthless SPAX dampers . . .
