Hello EVERYONE!
Funny... looks like the green lights are out again.
This is what happened last time I posted something... I thought everyone was gone and so I just logged out after I posted. Apparently right after I posted and logged out, Sika asks me about the weather, Gem pops up, TNMM tells Sika that he has "BO" and... well... SORRY!
The weather has been absolutely beautiful! I hate to say that though when people are freezing their hoo-hahs off.
We've been doing quite a bit of yardwork and stuff. I think someone found our roadkill pick-up location and took all the good ones.
But my thinking is that the overfilled trucks from that particular plot of citrus is over. The fruit has been picked on one side... but there are some other trees that are FULL of fruit. I don't know when those will be harvested... but they will probably use the same access road. So many of the trees are in full bloom and it almost looks like snow on them! Very weird... but the smell is... ahhhh.
UHOH- Your rat made me laugh but that was gross! Don't get me wrong... I love "vintage" but "vintage rats"? Nice!
The first house we did a reno' on... I remember I was taking out the old drywall. The house had been tented so any living thing- roaches, rats, termites were smoked. So I'm taking out the drywall and I see a little part of a skeleton. My first thought is "Ohhhh... a little birdy died"
... and then I see a tail and I'm like,
"It's a RAT!!! It's a f'ing RAT!!!!". It was so funny.
Yesterday we made a last minute decision for a road trip to try and see the Space Shuttle take off. We got stuck in a bit of Orlando traffic
... the husband and I got in a yelling match (I won
) about the GPS not having common sense (it was trying to reroute us all the way back to get back on to a toll-way that we had gotten off and were trying to get away from and he was convinced that it wasn't
... boy, I was REALLY mean!).
Anyway, we were definately newbie's to the whole Space Shuttle thing... but it was a beautiful day and we just went for it. As many of you probably know... the Shuttle can be delayed at anytime... even seconds before lift-off. We knew the risk but thought we'd do it and if it worked out- great... if not- oh well. It ended up that we were about 20 miles away when it went up.
We were just a few miles from the town of "Christmas". We saw lots of people on bridges and people stopped on the sides of the road but we kept driving. Then all of a sudden I see this big orange glow ahead. At first, I mistakenly think it's one of those tall pipes with the natural gas burning (like around Houston, Galveston, Louisiana area too) but then it was "OMG!!!OMG!!!! THAT'S IT!!! THAT'S IT!!!". So the husband grabbed for the cameras and I pulled on to a little grassy median in the center of the six lane highway. The car was running and I was SO excited that I could barely hold the camera steady. Of course the camera doesn't do it justice... but my naked Pink Troll was there (and occasionally the camera focused more on the bugs on my windshield) but it was really awesome. And crazy thing, out of all of my mp3 discs in the car I had the one with "Rocket Man" by Elton John and it was playing right then!
The sound of the little movie I made really sounds crappy... doesn't sound clear when the music is turned up too loud but I was singing and it was just perfect in real life. At one point, when I was zoomed in on the Shuttle it went behind a tiny cloud and when it came out it had just released its booster rockets and I was yelling, "IT JUST LET ITS BOOSTERS GO!!"... and then I lost the focus and was trying to hurry to get it back. I am crazy!
So, it was hardly a cinematic moment in history... but it was a 100% newbie reaction... I had a lump in my throat and tears in my eyes. "Rocket Man" has a whole new meaning now. I think I might try to go again.

My birthstone too... but I have nada... wanna share?

I still keep watching the video... it's so crappy but so cool at the same time!
Holy crap that's close! Do you have any eyebrows left?
You live closer than I do... lucky you get to skip Orlando!
Being over there... where do you go to see it? Don't tell me your backyard either...

I feel like i was there too and I would have had tears in my eyes also, that is an amazing thing to send a shuttle into space, and I seem to cry at stuff like that and with Elton John playing one of my very favorite songs....

Maybe. Film maker...
. Not as much detail on the uploaded video... can't see the buggy windshield as clearly!
I think it was around 1:42 on the video that I announced that I was "all verklempt" and then choked out the "that is really cool" line.Glad your weather is getting better. Soon it will be top down motoring! WOOT!
i can't wait!going to close now, have a great night, and nice to have you back again!!! miss you !!!!
We missed you 'Ola!!!
And the rat! I found a spinal cord from some kind of animal last night in a different wall, but MAN the first thing I thought of was, "what is this, mini-predator???" It was really wicked looking.
Great story and awesome video, 'Ola. You're so cute! It reminds me...when we lived on Wright Patterson Air Force Base (I was...7?) The space shuttle landed piggy back on a big airplane, and we got to be there! I have pictures of my little brother & I with the shuttle and the plane and the background. It's not as *swoooshingly* awesome as 'Ola's story, though.

When we lived down there we chased the Shuttle several times. We found a really good route to take that avoids all the traffic in Orlando. If you take I-4 to US-192 east to St. Cloud. Once you get through St. Cloud turn left onto CR-532. You'll go about 12 miles when 532 turns due north.(watch out for wildlife!) When you come to a stop sign, turn right on 520. That will take you to US-1 (if you keep going straight you drive right onto Merritt Island, but they close it during launches.) where you can find a spot to watch it somewhere along the beach.
From this vantage point you should be able to hear and maybe even feel the rumble from the rocket motors.
Back in the late nineties we were able to get a base pass to see launches. We were fortunate enough to see a night launch from about 5 miles away. It lights up everything brighter than daylight! Plus the sound just pounds on you from that close. Several minutes later we could smell the burning motors.
Ahhh, nothing like the smell of burning ammonium perchlorate.

Got notified that a distant co-worker just passed away; I didn't know her very well, but we'd worked together on a social thing last year. It wasn't much of a surprise - she just underwent gamma knife radiation for a brain cancer. She was such a really nice lady. I'm glad I at least got a "hug" card off to her when I heard about her treatments.

I'm so sorry.
Sounds like you need a hug too, one coming your way....
*HUGS*
What a shame. I'm glad you got that card out too. Peace to her family...

Ok, happier thoughts. SO.... can anybody else stick out your tongue and touch your nose? Tie a cherry stem in a knot with your tongue?
