new Mini
awesome, Thanks !!
i have some unemployeed friends of mine coming by this week to help me get the body work done.....unemployeed friends are the best.....there not professionals but they have done body work before so hopefully it will go smoothly...lol.......just so everyone knows, all my buisness restorations go through my prof. body guy, i'm attempting this on my own because i have no money....lol...dont want anyone to think this is how i do customer cars, ideally if i had the money i would have my guy do it, but he is not cheap and he is tied up with a yellow mini city right now, then has another one right after that, so, if i do it, i can have it done faster/maybe not better, but hell, it's mine for the keeping...lol
were stripping out the stuff that was left in the engine bay right now, I also have someone replacing the rear seat right now for me, should have almost all the body work done by wednesday night
so my idea for the rear seat repair worked.....we used a new outer sill pan to replace the 5 inches of rear seat deck that was bad..saved about 400.00 by doing it this way..came out very nice .....i will take pics when i'm completly done with it....
so i worked at my real job from 12am till 6am last night, got home at 7am, went to bed at 8am, woke up at 9:30am and got the engine bay complete sandblasted and ready for paint by 11:30am .....woot

still going too.....lol....i keep going out to the garage and working on it for 30 min on then 30 min off......i'm determaned at this point...lol......i'm still shooting for my goal of having it painted before my fiance comes home the second week of October.....the rest will take a bit longer to get together, just want to finish the body work and paint for now.....that way i can at least look at a nice mini in my garage everyday...lol......yes very tired, but i have a hard time sleeping during daylight, which doesn't mix when i have a late night job
It's been great to see the progress of your Mini, as well as the others on your website. It's been very inspiring, and this is from a guy who's still 3 weeks out from picking up his fist new mini. I hadn't even thought of the classics before, but now I'm dreaming... Now that I think about it, I don't believe I've ever seen a classic Mini in all of Kentucky.
Just one question (for now), what is your background in car restoration and repair? Does this hobby coincide with your job, or did you just pick it up as you went? I'm sure that following the thread will drastically skew my idea of the time frame for a job like this.
Anyway, great work!

i just happened to fall into the buisness, i have a tight little crew who work with me to get projects done, at prices that most restorations shops can even touch......i dont do it for a living, i actually have alot of little jobs that keep me busy, mini restorations, tattoo artist, board operator for a radio station, painter (faux, and mirals for homes), and some other misc stuff...lol....i try to keep busy, and if i do a bunch of things i dont get bored....
tommarow will be the day of tackling exterior body work, also gonna finish the rear seat deck.......were planning on getting all the body work complete tommarow but we will see, got a crew of friends coming by.....this mini might not be perfect when done but should still be pretty nice.....were doing the best we can on NO BUDGET...just free labor and left over body work supplies....also front subframe should be blasted tomarrow, primed and painted
