new Mini
The chassis #, body #, wiper motor stamping, accessories/fittings, etc all pointed to an April build 1962 997 Cooper. Production date was confirmed by BMHT as 4/19/1962
I am not sure if they continued to stamp the chassis in 62, but the brace that goes from the crossmember on the firewall up to the left wing on top of it they used to stamp the production number for the chassis there. if there is paint take some brake fluid or paint thinner and wipe away the paint on top of that brace, it was hand stamped so dont use sand paper, but those numbers should match the last numbers of your VIN tag.
You're probably a good person to ask about this...
How difficult is it to replace the crossmember that the seats mount to?
It doesn't seem too bad, however looks can be deceiving.
I imagine it's just a matter of removing the old one and welding in the new one.

email sent jolt !!!.......yeah, the floor wasn't out for long...lol...i'm trying to get this mini knocked out....and since i work late nights at a radio station now, my days are open.....pan came out pretty easy....gotta go get the seam sealer tomarrow and also gott pick up some metal to rebuild the center tunnel.....gonna tackle the rear bench seat tommarow....only problem is to replace the seat you have to get the pan from the seat to rear of the boot...it's a one piece panel.....think i'm gonna create something because that whole panel is not bad, it's just 6 inches from the edge lip of the seat back.....i have a pretty cool idea on how to do it but wanna try it before announcing my creativity solution...lol....if it fails which i doubt, i wont have to tell anyone what i tried to do....lol
I bet 7 ent. has just this piece laying around. They say right on their site that the will cut the seat part of the boot floor off if all you want is the floor to save on shipping. It might be worth a call to see what they say.
just shot them a email...thanks......hopefully my idea will work, if so it only cost me $3?.00 dollars to do
......i'm also looking for the tunnel where the shifter comes through.....worse case scenario we can make it, but it would be easier if someone had one lying around

I always wanted to get some cheap metal working equipment from harbor freight and give a go at making my own panels. But I can't seem to get around the fact that I'll have $400 worth of junk to climb over and still have to buy a $200 panel cause I failed miserably.
You won't know how it turns out until you try though.

ok, well we didnt get the rear seat done yet...lol.....ended up having to do repair work to the underside of the cross member (qskapunk jinx'd me)......since i didn't get the half floor I had to cut out some more floor and put new metal in......hopefully within the next few days, the main rust issue will be handled, fortanetly there really isn't much more rust issues.....
- i'll let you know how my repair when I tackle it in a couple months
