Black Austin Mini in Roseville.

I was behind a black classic getting on the freeway this morning in Roseville. The thing was FAST! Lots of torque steer, too, lol! Was that anyone on here? I was in the LY/W new S.

That was me. I eased first and second then floored 3rd, began to spin and had my left hand resting on the wheel INSTEAD of holding it (which I know better) so when the limited slip kicked in I fumbled the wheel. I chuckled too. I had just finished playing basketball and was in recovery mode but couldn't help myself since I was in pole position and entering the freeway. It's so hard not being adolescent in that car and climbing gear after gear. Even if I just milk the throttle something in me begs to take the motor to its top rung.

Anyhow, yeah that was me. Greetings!

From the description of the car and the torque steer I figured it HAD to be Meno...

Have I mentioned how jealous I am of your &^%$#@! VTEC engine?

Greetings! I work up 65 in Rocklin. When you hit 3rd, I floored it but you were still pulling away. So that's what a VTEC can do for a classic. Sharp looking ride ya got there.

Getting the power down to the ground is quite difficult but it's currently better than it has ever been. I'm on my way to meet the builder (Norman from MiniTec) and Don at Mini Mania later this morning so I will get the professional opinion on how all of the modifications to the suspension work.

I appreciate the compliment - good to meet you. Perhaps we'll connect at one of the Mini social events - there is one tomorrow night in Placerville but I haven't determined if my wife is going to let me go just yet.

Anytime I see a Mini I either flash the headlights or wave so if I see you again, you'll know why I'm flashing.

Be good.

Are you running a SOHC Civic engine, or a DOHC Integra engine? Stock or modified? If a modded DOHC, I imagine you've got close to 200hp... at least. Gotta be fun in such a light car.

REME is having a BBQ in Natomas tomorrow at the home of two of our members, so I'll be there in the afternoon (haven't decided if I still want to head down to Antioch for Billetproof in the morning). If it's still early when I leave, maybe I'll head up to Placerville and look for the Minis. I'm currently living in El Dorado Hills, so I'll be going that direction anyway.

I try to be good, but the right foot has a mind of its own.

Brian

Meno,

Maybe you shouldn't play basketball. The force is with you and you must channel that energy with care. Hold the wheel with two hands, please!

I know. I know. But you will see. At first its all about white knuckles, total concentration and sweaty palms (out of this context that really sounds bad but I digress) but after a short while you get lazy and start rolling cigarettes, answering phones, reading email on your blackberry, all the while banging gears as the vtec howls in your ears. It makes sense in the moment, but it's not smart.

I dropped my phone while driving the twisties around Mini Mania today and actually caught myself trying to find the phone through 20 MPH turns on a river bank. Naturally the car was under duress too. Genius.

Meno's mini

Meno's mini is a K-series (K20?) with a blower for a little extra chutzpah, because as the saying goes: "if it's something worth doing, is worth overdoing." I haven't driven his car, but I own a B16 mini and can't imagine how fast that little black monster of his must be?

Yeah - Lance's car is a (Jackson Racing?) Supercharged K20. If 80% is nutter, he's probably sitting around 120%.

Brian - Does REME have classic Minis in their inventory? I've never taken my car to any Mini gig but have have wanted to do so and would be interested if REME is an active group in the area.

For the record: K20A3 2004 Civic Si - 204 whp which equals approx 240-250 hp - jackson supercharged - methanol injected - blah, blah, blah

I ate lunch with Norman yesterday and had a good talk with Don from Mini Mania...in fact Don burned some SmallZilla rubber - he's getting ready to start a Vtec project of his own soon. Norman came to realize what bad conditon CA roads are in compared to those in Georgia and stated my car rides real rough now or at least the roads are real rough.

Keith - again...I meant to call today. Be merciful.

Latka - How was the San Diego tour? Not since the Beatles landed...

San Diego was fun, but it was over 100 degrees the whole week! (blech!) Got to meet Spank, AJ, and Benny (among other SD Mini folks) from MiniMania. Even got a 4.5 or 4.7 earthquake during breakfast. It was fun to go back and see everyone, but I was glad to get back to Hawaii and cool off.

I still have evil plans for my '66 S if I can keep it. I'm going to have to strip most of the parts off and sell 'em to keep the shell... keep your fingers crossed!

Yep, a few. We had a club BBQ today, and I found out that there's another classic in the club now (they also have two new MCS convertibles). There aren't many classics that show up for the runs, but we do have several classic owners who are members, and the classics are always welcome at any event. REME pretty much has an event every month, including a few weekend long events in the spring and summer. We do some drives around this area and some in the Napa/Sonoma/Coast area and some dowen in the Bay Area. The next club event is a one-day drive in the foothills up Highway 50, first Saturday of October. Here's the basic itinerary:

"Meetup for coffee at 9:00AM at Starbucks 1228 Broadway, Placerville. This mountain/foothills run will depart at 9:30AM from Starbuck's in Placerville and take Morman Emigrant Trail to near Twin Bridges, then back on hywy 50 thru Kyburz ti Icehouse Rd, to Westworth Rd. then Hywy 193 back to Original Mel's in Placerville."

I was telling Garrett and Rob (who both have classics) about the "encounter" the other day. Garrett said that he figured with that kind of power you had to be running a VTEC. 204whp?!?! Holy s....

Brain - check out the thread in the classic forum entitled: MiniTec's 1st MTK (or something like that anyhow) for the whole build history and photos...dyno chart is there too.

Let me know the next upcoming event and I'll try to be there (other than that mentioned above).

Thanks,

Lance
