Antenna Relocation

I was wondering if anyone knows how to relocate you areial (aka antenna) to the roof from the fender. My Mini has one on the fender but the actual antenna is missing so I'd like to put on on the roof. I think it looks cuter there.

The "Mini Restoration Manual" (Haynes) has a short section on installing a roof aerial (pg 177-180).

Remove sun visors. On a '77 Mini the front of the headlining is tucked/glued under the windscreen rubber seal, so for a neat job the windscreen needs to come out. Peel back the front few inches of headlining, if its gone brittle it may tear easily so take care. (it is possible to do without windscreen removal but the cut edge & gluing will be visible so not advised for a neat job). Drill the correct size hole from outside (use a hole punch & tape to avoid scratches). Scrape paint underneath for good metal to aerial contact. Run aerial lead down inside of front windscreen/door pillar, use stiff wire to pull it through if necessary. Sometimes a bit of foam has to be pulled out if its in the way. The lead comes out lower down through a convienient hole or wiring grommet (if your lucky) then behind the dash trim panels to the radio. Refit windscreen & headlining along front edge with a little glue.
Hope this helps.
(If you want a bee sting type aerial at the back like the new MINI the principal is the same but you would need a much longer aerial lead).
PS.The original wing/fender aerial cannot be used of course, you need to buy a purpose made roof aerial made for the job.

The roof replacement unit is sometimes referred to as the "stinger" antenna. Looks like a whole different unit to me - the antenna itself screws on and off like the new MINI. I believe minifinity.co.uk has a How-to - check their technical libbrary od Google "how to install stinger antenna Mini" and you should be able to find it.

Does anyone know where to find a replacement fender antenna? I think i'm just going to put a new one on the fender. It's easier. LOL.

Not sure which exact one you need but try this:

I'd love a roof antenna, but I don't waht to have to patch the hole in the wing and repaint it.

That's why I don't wanna put a roof one on. I think I need the second antenna but it looks like that replaces the whole unit. I just need the chrome wiper on top. I wonder if you can put a new antenna on it... Like one of the shark fin antenna's or something...
